This 'sin tax' is to supplement screwed up budgets. It's not confined to cigarettes either. In 2009 Philadelphia Mayor Nutty proposed a 'soda tax' because 'sodas are harmful'. It was supposedly dropped however it was snuck into city legislation somehow and now a $1 soda is $1.08..fuck what the people want right?

One problem with Chantix and Zyban. Both are anti-depressants that have consequences beyond nicotine addiction..see the side effects and besides, the pharm industry is going to want serious subsidies if they are freely distributed. Subsidies=tax payer money, many of whom are smokers who don't want to stop smoking. NY state raised the taxes on cigarettes long ago under Clinton's 'sin tax' policies of 90's to supposedly create a fund to provide health care for smoking related illnesses. We know that much of that money went to fund the police-prison establishment. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. For me, government..stay out of my private life

Anyone who is familiar with Alexander Solzhenitsyn has the answer but unfortunately, this type of behavior will intensify because the 'people' whoever the fuck they are, haven't given the police a compelling enough reason not to stop brutalizing and killing you. They believe that people like it, again, because you haven't given the police the proper motivation. And besides, these folks are not acting as a few bad apples or lone wolf types. The police along with the establishment in general, continues to receive broad and unquestioned support from the majority of society-regardless of their color.

I was briefly stationed in the Phillipines during the early 1980's..the level of poverty there was no joke however, those folks over had sense enough to rebel when they had nothing to lose. Remember Marcos? Over here, the reason we've not had a major insurrection since the Civil War is because of cheap food and 'social services'. Withdraw those and we'll have 1789 all over again. Maybe these human service should be withdrawn..it would definitely be an eye opening motivator for real change you can believe in...1789

I value all of the above insights however, there is another view as to why 'higher education' is so highly touted...MONEY. That's right it takes money to attend even a mediocre college. Student loans have become a new method of enslaving an entire generation into debt. Colleges will accommodate students; have you visited a college campus lately? College campuses have become guarded game parks..for $30-40 K a year. Multiply that times 5 and that's a hefty return for colleges. That's just ONE STUDENT. Don't forget the primary lender along with a host of other college-town dependent parasites either. It's a win-win-lose situation all round. Sounds like the last gasps of academic elitism at work.
