I left my DSLR on the picnic bench of a State park in Wisconsin, just sent a check so those lovely people will mail it back to me in CT.
Also car trips are great for readers, I read East of Eden; my librarian husband read 10 books; our bookworm daughter read about 8 Warriors book and our son reread 3 Harry Potter books.

Re: Girl's Gone Child: 175/100

We just did the epic road trip with our kids. 6100 miles, 21 states, 14 nights camping, 4 nights on couches, 2 nights in hotels, 2 national parks and only one meal at a restaurant. Everyone kept asking where we were going and while our destination was the Grand Canyon, I kept emphasizing that experience was really the trip. So much fun. Numerous inside jokes. Kids developed solid foundations in Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Blues Traveller and Jerry Seinfeld. Epic singalongs with Pop Stations. With Trip Advisor and Yelp you can find reasonable and not so shady motels in the middle of nowhere and amazing reviews of State Parks. I hated to leave the cocoon of the four of us on that trip. We all developed a greater appreciation for each other and we can set up and breakdown camp like no ones business now.

Re: Stop Slutting Up Our Girls

Wow. The video is perplexing. While all the the girls are talented dancers the choice of song, costume, and choreography is utterly age inappropriate. The coach and the parents got sucked into the machine mentality that they had to outfit and choreograph this way for the girls to have a shot, that their pure talent as dancers wouldn't be seen without the boyshorts and gyrating. Eight year olds aren't supposed to dance in the same manner or costumes as 20 year olds. There is no realm where this is appropriate.

Re: Hello New Year…

you look great. 53 lbs. damn!

Re: mind streams - Stumbled across this gem from our good friend...

This made me smile very very widely.

Re: Organizing vs Just Shoving Into a Drawer

Obviously, you need this shirt. http://typetees.threadless.... . Their commitment to environmentally friendly efforts went beyond any I have ever seen. (Note: that this is a large scale event with thousands of riders.)

They used all compostable plates and cultery; had an volunteer attendants at each recycling station to assist and maintain the integrity of the station; and donated the leftovers from their corporate sponsors.

The high not for me was seeing people asked to separate their leftovers from the aluminum foil. You rarely see that. High quality and commitment.

Re: Rant on Twitter before breakfast

That was just great. I didn't get the whining and was truly turned of by it in many ways and I didn't even check blog posts just tweets, plurks, dents etc.

Re: The social in social media

Kate,

I really enjoy Seesmic. I find that you can join in so many different conversations. If I'm in an intellectual mood there's something available to talk about whether it be environmentalism or culture or education. If I'm feeling silly, I can participate in a hat off. I enjoy the ability to not just comment but to participate in a dialogue.
I was really surprised at how comfortable I felt in front of the camera. That doesn't mean I haven't discarded more than my share of videos before they were shared to the public.
