Thank you for that. You are damn right, we are all doomed, just not sure when a bus or a medical conversation will make it imminent. All the best to you and your peeps. xoxoLindsay

Re:

I've been doing this on my own dime for like 4 years- but the short NY-DC and back version. The train truly is magical for writing. I think it's because you're ticking down the miles to the intended page output, and trying to beat a really concrete physical deadline. At least that's how I use it. That actually makes me feel better than I can explain. Often, on the innerwebs, it seems that everyone is so bright and shiny and ^%^^ kicking, and I'm happy to see so many people doing awesome things.Truly, I am. But when I don't quite know what to do with me, it's a bit daunting to share at all. So the stuckness feels like an echo chamber. It's really nice to hear another voice talk about taking action. What you said about not hiding it is so precisely the crux of the matter. I guess it comes down to my fave word, chiaroscuro- the contrast between light and shadow. We can't all be sunlight and roses all of the time, or conquer the world 24/7. Thank you so much for sharing this, and yourkind reply- holla anytime, I'd love the company, too. I've been stuck in a rut for about six months, and you just helped me realize that beating oneself up is not the same as getting unstuck. It is, in fact, counter to that. On my first journey to Kenya in 2011, the leapfrogging effect of mobile adoption was highly evident. From the bustle of downtown Nairobi to the potato farms in the southern countryside, Safari.com signs outpaced Coke signs, and a phone was in the hands of the majority of people I met. The M-Pesa and other branchless banking systems have integrated mobile content use in a very connected way. Content, apps, and market interaction are such a HUGE opportunity for many sectors. Can't wait to hear y'all! And it's everything I like about blogging. It is a narrative, and you do need a heroine- and I love that my friends are mine. That when you look for it, there IS a conversation about trying to be the best of ourselves in all the roles we play- and then laughing at the fact that we're never going to be perfect at any of them. And that's OK. Because depite ur lack of perfection, our community does some pretty damn amazing things. And that's enough for this Mommyblawger.:)

Re: We Care Solar + frog: Improving Conditions in African Medical Clinics | Blog | design mind

I'm SO excited to see this groundbreaking work one step closer to being brought to scale!

The Stachels' work has only been on my radar for 2 weeks, but I have high hopes for it. as I learned of the need for such supplementary power sources while visiting the Kemri/CDC clinic in Kisumu, Kenya- I visited there with ONE.org in August, and one of their greatest needs is a generator to perform crucial ops (such as emergency C-sections) when the power grid isn't working. I'm now working to help them find a solution.

This solution is so vital to so much in the rural health care outposts that are not only saving live, but powering the research to save hundreds of thousands more. With ONEmoms, people were community members and partners, not an "audience". I think that's why they worked, and would so dearly love to share the conversation at SXSW 2012. Thank you! Now, in my chaotic house full of 3 kids and taking the occasional conference call hiding in the shower (fully clothed, of course) I can attest that my productivity (and commensurate success and growth opportunities) have skyrocketed. This is such an ongoing debate with marketers and product developers I know- so many PD folks assume there IS a Luddite mom profile, and create devices with that in mind- but I'll tell you what, every mom I know is scrambling, reading app FAQs while the kids sleep to stay ahead of their 11 year olds. As the mom of a 15, 7, and 5 yr old, and a consumer translator of sorts, I'd also love to hear your thoughts on product safety and/or online safety features, and how they're presented- case in point, Nintendo's decision to label the 3DS as not intended for kids under 7, despite that potentially ruling out a large swath of their market- the data wasn't there in those younger users, so they went the most conservative labelling route. As a mom, I really respected that call.
