For so many reasons it will reduce safety instead of increase it.

Cyclist will have to cross the pedestrian lane to enter the park

Using an unprotected pedestrian lane to impose traffic calming on cyclists is just dangerous

It will suddenly end at two different ends leaving pedestrians confused as to where to go

Pedestrians will be moving in two different directions on both sides of the roadway and will spontaneously cross the road. Proceeding directly into an active cycling lane.

Hopefully the DOT will do things to improve safety like changing what the traffic lights do. Without spending any money they can change the traffic lights to blinking red for those crossing the crosswalk and blinking yellow for those on the roadway. That would remind cyclists on the roadway that they are approaching a crosswalk and remind people crossing the roadway at the crosswalks that they are actually crossing an active bike lane

Re: Prospect Park Drive to be improved for cyclists and pedestrians

For more than a decade I have been par of the roadway safety task force. A little subcommittee of the Prospect Park alliances community committee. Nobody who's on this committee now or was ever on the committee has ever suggested putting a pedestrian lane on the outside of the roadway. Especially not just halfway around the park. This would not improve safety and in fact would be dangerous. Every cyclist entering the park would have to cross this path where they would be too way pedestrian traffic. Also pedestrians on this path would look across the road and see other pedestrians and might randomly decide to cross the bike lane without looking.

We've been suggesting for years things that would improve safety. For example the traffic lights that are now randomly placed to control automobile traffic that doesn't exist Could do something helpful. They could be blinking yellow to everyone who's on the roadway reminding people that they're about to cross it crosswalk and they can be blinking red for everyone who's entering the crosswalk reminding people to look because they're crossing a bike lane.

michael ring

Re: BREAKING: ‘Citizen Reporting’ Bill Moves Forward, But Without the Bounty

This would be great. It's been a very frustrating experience considering the parks department doesn't really Show any interest in letting us try to make the roadway safer for anybody. We rarely meet, and at times we've been told not to meet because the park's department was going to work with Central Park to come up with a plan. And then Central Park went ahead with its own plan. Then either the box department or the prospect park alliance announced a ban on e-bikes.Hey man that was uninforced and unenforceable.but strangely enough on one day it was enforced. If this all sounds very confusing. It is.

Now we are using proprietary budgetary funds to pay the people who used to be gridlock Sam to tell us what we should do.We've been waiting endlessly for their report. Also no one who's on the roadway see the task force seems to know how they're gathering their information.

i wrote this over 10 years ago https://whatyourdonotknowbe...

Re: Seriously, It’s Time for $2.75 Fares on Intracity Trips on LIRR and Metro-North

It's really just been a way to keep the riffraff off the railroad.

Re: Central Park Conservancy Studying Ways to Make Park Loop Safer

The prospect Park alliance has been actively not doing anything to make the loop road safer for decades

Re: Streetsblog New York City

It's kind of crazy that anyone who knows anyone who has a special parking permit can park wherever they want. Many people need to use those ramps or even the sidewalk that is continually blocked by entitled car owners

Re: Extra Unemployment Benefits Will Expire at the End of July

Hi

Re: DOT Expanding Loading Zones in Brooklyn After Car Parker Pushback

But half the households in New York do not have cars .
