Platform is not a "client" word - meeting planners NEVER say platform and meeting planners hire 90% of the speakers who speak. It is not uncommon for people so close to the center of their industry to become so myopic that they forget client vocabulary.

I've been riffin' on this this #epicfail for the last 24 hours on a post on Facebook National Speakers Association, I mean Platformtopia, FB page. I figured Michael Hyatt was hopping happy about the extra juice for his book Platform.

If you type - platform - into YouTube - you get this "creative community of content creators" that already have a ton of momentum.

Thanks for your excellent principled article on this topic and for providing a clear action plan to get the heck out of Dodge as soon as possible, or to continue to tug on the Chinese finger torture puzzle from which there is no escape.

BTW Ray, the battle "speakers" have had since jump, is with woofers, tweeters, subwoofers and midrange SPEAKERS. I remember in the days a speaker saying his father didn't think he had a real business until he was in the Yellow Pages - so he bought an ad one year and sure enough - they put him right in the stereo section!

Okay, that's a really old story - but screwing up your branding can happen to anyone - and the sooner Das Speakers go back to speaking, instead of trying to push a chain up a hill of making clients use an industry insider word that until recently has either meant disco shoes or where you caught a train in the old timey days.

Thanks so much Lee Collins and Maria Reyes-McDavis (whew that's a lot to type!) for your support and friendship. This is a big and exciting time for me - and I want to do it right. Maria, you had advised me to take all my products down and begin anew with the fresh perspective on what my lead message was - and you were right.

But, the timing had to coincide with my health improving to the point that I could take this on.

Thanks Lee for attending the first ever Wisdom Thesis Project workshop. Look forward to seeing all your books come to life.

Lady JR - in the end we live our lives doing the things we are cut out to do. Sometimes you just toss all that time management and personal development stuff about productivity and just LIVE and CREATE - sounds like you are in that zone with the research - fun.

Of course, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Everyone should still sign up for The Buzzy Book 8-)

Carole, I know what you mean. When I was in Eastern Europe there were simply no books in English. It was still a good vibe to be in a place where people were making their ideas into books but, it's sure not the same.

Looks to me like Barnes and Noble and stores like Blockbuster are trying to generate as much or more revenue from the chatchkis and schwag in the store because people buy so much online.

30 miles is not the end of the world though, take a picnic and enjoy!

Wow! I was hoping I'd get some comments but to get one from a Big Fish like Maria Reyes-McDavis - wow!

The 2nd training video in The Buzzy Book members area is me taking
you Barnes Storming LIVE - it's hilariously funny - and a really good
lesson for writers about knowing what section your book goes in before
you write it.

Unless you have a Teenage Paranormal Romance (an actual HUGE section
in Barnes and Noble) you ought to figure out where your book belongs. Thanks M!

Dean o' Dean - the constant tension between the vexing liberation of doing our own creative projects as a solo act - and the power of collaborative team contributions...

I heard guitarist Joe Walsh answering on Adam Carollo's Podcast why he joined the Eagles, and he said...

"Well, I was in a band and then I went solo and had a good career as a solo act, but there are so many things that come with that gig that have nothing to do with the music - I just started thinking it would be cool to be back in a band again, so when the Eagles were looking to get out of the country pickin' image and be more of a rock act - I joined them."

I would at first caution all of our creative ilk to avoid working with or for (or even around) "Da Man" but I totally see how it could also take you places and let you be involved in somethings we are just never really going to attempt as a solo act.

Well, I apparently got too clever with an email subject line and got a bunch of my readers pretty fishmeckled! The subject line was: Hey why is your wesite down?

And inside the first line was "I was going to your site to buy something from you and your site is down - what's up with that?

Sans quotation marks.

Then I went on to explain how that's a pretty awful email to
get and that it had happened to me - which is why I now
use Robert Plank Backup Creator http://rickbutts.com/backup...

I had 4 people reply and tell me they KNEW their site was down
and they were freaked out about it and working on getting it
back up.

I had 10 people email me pissed off because I had the
ignorance to send a mass email out without an unsubscribe
link (oops - ARP3 requires me to check that box and I
screwed up)

I had another dozen folks take me to task for scaring
the crap out of them.

Any given email day - huh?

I miss Little Dog more than anything! Trying not to think about it but I'm truly sad. When you've got a super loyal dog who just wants to be where you are and watch you work - totally accepts you unconditionally and feels soft - well - that's the best!

I'll either bring her here when I find a place or come back and get her for phase 2. Just thought she was too old to rattle around on this part of the journey. And, on the 5th floor with no elevator - I'm right.
