Absolutely there are those who, regardless of situation, will enjoy the challenge of entrepreneurship and achieve great things. Unfortunately there are equally those whose skills lie in finding the loopholes in society to allow minimal effort on their part. A machine based manufacturing/service provision model WITHOUT something to provide displaced workers with income is likely to provide a very divided society and social unrest as history has proven time and again. Disruptive technological advance is not necessarily a panacea. Technological evolution that allows a slow moving sociopolitical structure to keep up however has enormous advantages.

Re: The Mercedes Robo-Car That Made Me Want to Stop Driving

Re: The Mercedes Robo-Car That Made Me Want to Stop Driving

This article is very interesting. I do wonder though, if it was originally written in German and poorly translated. Please Wired, start showing some editorial pride and check your articles for bad use of the English language. I understand that it is tolerated in the spoken word. However, professional writers must be held to a higher standard than those not paid to do so.

Re: No, Really, the PC Is Dying and It’s Not Coming Back

Why? totally different device and not necessarily mutually exclusive

Re: No, Really, the PC Is Dying and It’s Not Coming Back

So comparing the sales of phones to sales of computers is valid ? why not compare the sales of string beans to new orders for cars while you are about it. These are NOT even in the same ball park. I have yet to find a phone no matter how nice the screen and shock resistant the case that can be used for word processing let alone host a multi-terrabyte database. The only true comparison is in the price. iOverblown costs about the same as a fully functional computer with considerably more internal storage and power, If you are going to compare them at all. Even if you accept that the PC platform is "saturated" that just indicates that it is a product that that has been around and improved vastly over 20+ years with multiple manufacturer support, and not an overpriced internet connected though mobile toy with comparatively limited features and only one monopolistic manufacturer.

Re: Coal is Still Dominant and no solution is being scaled to meet the challenge of cheap energy

The most interesting part of this article is the "Estimates of Global Population that GAINED access to electricity from 1990-2010" 1.6Billion people. That is from having NOTHING. no infrastructure. Little existing means of leveraging their labor. using Coal/Fossil fuel is an achievable objective from nothing. Hydro takes way too long to build and is not as eco-friendly as advertised. i.e. three gorges dam. Nuclear demands infrastructure and education as well as the sudden paranoia of the rest of the world accusing you of wanting to build bombs out of it. Wind power and solar are both unreliable and a joke in investment/return and again require a far more sophisticated maintenance infrastructure, both would die off quickly without the substantial government subsidies they have enjoyed for years. Coal and fossil Fuel are an important first step that allows the multifold increase in return on labor enjoyed in the 1st world. FIRST step, not last. once some level of improvement is achieved that allows the infrastructure for the more long term options like nuclear power. IPCC have failed too often to use true scientific method and can be classified as a religious cult rather than scientists. Science rule 1. - doubt everything. the third world needs coal. 1st world needs to get off it. The only viable alternative truly being nuclear at this time.

Re: To Farm or Not to Farm

No need to be concerned with MA any longer. It had now been downgraded to the point of uselessness. It is no longer played and could be removed from the servers without anyone noticing. I think this is very unfortunate. The creativity of the player map creators has been erased. The ticket system was admittedly over rewarding and needed tuning. However this has been overdone. The key here is the exchange of tickets into salvage or some other influence/infamy convertable currency. Salvage was allocated a set ticket value wich was arbitrarily assigned. If this was linked to the overall economy then AE could have been tamed without being destroyed. i.e. ticket cost adjusted to current Wentworth/Black Market price. if a Masterworks Weapon costs 1000 inf then it costs 20 tickets. e.g. If it costs 1,000,000 inf then it costs 2000 tickets.
Unfortunately I'm unsure if AE can be revived. I liked it and it made getting into teaming easy. You could also do a large spawn kill all map without the fear of spoiling someone elses game by completing it.
