You minimalize the point of a gift when you reduce it to only its monetary value. It also comes with your time (that you do not share equally with Jessica and thus can be given and taken) and your thought (as Jeanie mentioned).

BTW, you're ignoring (intentionally or not) the fact that the popular sports subsidize the hell out of the less popular sports programs. They also pay for the education of the athletes who may not be able to afford a college education otherwise. You may argue that many athletes skirt the the actual education, but they at least get the chance to learn.
