Several women messengers who proclaimed ‘good news’ are found in the Gospels (Mt. 28:1-10; Lk. 24:9-11; Jn. 4:28-30; 20:16-18). God predicted women would prophecy (Joel 12:28-31; Acts 2:14-21) Prophesying is for public use(1 Cor 12:1-31; 14:1-6,12,24-26,29-33). Philip’s four daughters were prophetesses.(Acts 21:8-9). Seven female ‘laborers in the Lord’ ( ministers ) were mentioned in Ro. 16. One of whom was Phoebe, who (according to many scholars) carried the book of Romans to the congregation. Two female leaders are mentioned in Phil. 4:12. Corinthian women prophesied and prayed in church. (1 Cor. 11:4-5,13) Gifts of the Spirit are for all members of the body (1 Cor. 12). Prophetesses were used of God in O.T. days (Ex. 15:20; Judges 4:4; Kings 22:14; 2 Chr. 34:22; Neh 6:14; Isa. 8:3; Lk.1:39-56; 2:36).
