I’m not normal. I’m one of those strange folks who dream of chance romantic encounters coming true.

Re: Apple’s holiday ad shows off wireless AirPods and a stunning dance performance in the snow

Just ironic because you critiqued it for being based in reality, relatable to normal people, and some sort of fantasy ballet. Because in the real world, they met in a dance group, married for years and still very much in love. I guess it's too good to be true for some people 😜

Re: Apple’s holiday ad shows off wireless AirPods and a stunning dance performance in the snow

Ironic. The dancers in this commercial are actually married in real life. Been married for years.

Re: http://ranajune.com/post/401656071

Seriously hot.

Re: iPad = Paper 2.0 Beta

Also, I have no problem with Rupert Murdoch. Nobody forces anyone to buy the NY Post or to watch FOX News. He's a successful man. If people have a problem with a product, then don't buy it. It's as simple as that. There's no sense in getting mad at Apple or Steve Jobs for not including Adobe Flash support; just buy a product that does if it's so important to you.

All that said, also, "just works" goes a long way. Technology is suppose to make life easier not necessarily bring about democracy.

Re: iPad = Paper 2.0 Beta

TiredMemeCat, the problem with the whole unfettered Internet access is that in practical terms almost all video these days is ALREADY encoded with H.264! Mozilla should just embrace it because content providers already have. Take it from someone who is intimately familiar with web video encoding. Flash Player 10 already plays H.264, and when you hit the HQ button in YouTube, it's H.264! So don't start berating me. The Internets already chose. Theora might have been a decent alternative if the people who make encoders actually took it seriously. That hasn't seem to happened. Don't berate me for being practical about what ALREADY has happened.

I don't want Apple to take over the world, but it's up to his competitors to actually do something about it like create a better ecosystem and product.

And why the personal attacks? I'm just calling it like I see it.

Re: yellow bits: My liberalism is coming out…

Sorry to get riled up, but conservatism doesn't bother me. It's when people say stuff like "Republicans who were in favor of civil rights legislation." Umm... yeah, they were liberals. LBJ lost the South for a generation after the Voting Rights Act of 1960. That's when many Blue Dog Democrats became modern Republicans. The parties effectively switched places when it came to social issues.

And it really bothers me when you say "Do some research" because yeah, I'm fairly well read when it comes to politics. I don't believe what I believe because of some inane "axiom" like American was founded as a Christian nation. In matter of fact, if you do look up basic polling back during the founding of the country, a significantly smaller fraction of the country was what we would consider Christian. It was only after the Civil War and the defeat of the South that evangelicalism really exploded across the country.

Lastly, what I don't understand is how people on the right get away with calling Obama a socialist or an extreme leftist for that matter. His policies are decidedly centrist. He hasn't proposed a single tax hike. 80% of Americans believe in universal healthcare (we just disagree on how to do it). What in his policies could you possibly point to that make him a socialist? I hear people point to GM/Chrysler... And my first thought is that George W. Bush was the first one to lend them $17B last fall to keep them from collapse. GWB lent AIG more than $135B by the time Obama got into office. What in his policies possibly make him a socialist?!?!

Re: yellow bits: My liberalism is coming out…

Ugh... actually, there was a time when there was such thing as a "Liberal Republican" aka Abraham Lincoln.

And yes, you tell black people, Asian people, Hispanic people who have been discriminated against that there is no such thing as race. Not infatuated with race, but yes, I was called a gook/chink and all sorts of racial epithets when I was growing up. I've seen first hand racial discrimination growing up in the South. Sorry that you don't believe racism exists or that we have to protect the rights of minorities.

You should tell Glen Beck that when he says "Barack Obama hates white people" that most people think that means 1) Glen Beck is a moron/racist himself 2) That most people don't interpret that to mean that he's being critical of Obama on socialist grounds.

Let's also not forget that the Socialism in economic terms is a relative term that describe the amount of NOT-government control, but rather what government pays for in the economy. I just happen to think that people who need to see a doctor but don't have the money to pay for them don't have to wait until they get into the emergency room to do. And yes, I do have friends and family in socialist countries, who get excellent healthcare and will probably live longer than I do.

Re: notes and snapshots

you have the same smirk :-)

Re: notes and snapshots

Seriously, that is too precious!

Re: notes and snapshots

Precious.

Re: snapshot of a wally world* visit, in purchases

I used to call Wal-Mart "Wally World" too all the time.

And I have a copy of 'Once' at home! The court has only ruled on 5 of her opinions out of the hundreds she has written. Second, the high court only picks cases where it disagrees with its lower courts decisions, meaning that the majority of Supreme Court decisions overturn Appeal Courts decisions. On average, the Supreme Court overturns 75% of lower courts decisions. If we take her entire body of opinions from her time as an appeals court judge, she has written over 150 opinions of which only 3 were over turned.

And if you watch the video about its not the court of appeals' job to make policy, she is obviously making a tongue-in-cheek joke.

Re: notes and snapshots

Pretty dress and face.

Re: perma-kid

I wish I was you.

Re: i don't even know what this 'thing' is

Drug-induced euphoria?

Re: notes and snapshots

Haha, nice.

Re: 'star trek' was great but...

It was entertaining, yes, but story does matter. I'm not nitpicking continuity. I actually thought they way they retcon the whole Star Trek franchise was brilliant. I'm talking about a good story, though, where (yes, I'm going to use this word) stakes are involved and where people can get hurt. That's why the BEST part of the new Star Trek was when Spock's mom died or when Kirk's father died. It was those moments that really articulated good meaning, not just stuff exploding in space.

I don't mean films need to be cerebral. That's a plus. I mean movies or stories need to have a meaning, that is the difference between a plot and a story.

Re: *rana june - Late night iChats with @dj_i_dee

Love your facial reaction, Rana.

Re: notes and snapshots

you need to learn how to tie your shoes.

Re: notes and snapshots

she's way too cute.

Re: i'm going to miss all our heart-to-hearts while i'm away

too cute
