I think they were chosen for editorial reasons; not so much as a coincidence or an admission of guilt. I'm not so sure how to feel about the article though. It's interesting to read but for some reason there wasn't any resolution. I felt like there was an absence of a fight when having a national newspaper's attention is pretty much the easiest way to trump someone (if not guilty.) It just doesn't feel like a very satisfying response, especially after reading this one.

hardly think the girls with the iPhones were showing off to the whole class; they were really just probably taking photographs of the board.

sorry, but it's hard to sympathize with the author's plight when she's being so critical of other people's lifestyles choices. Not that i'm condoning the bullying that happened but generally most people would not be sympathetic to your story if you choose to make snide marks about the perfume they spray and the bags they carry.

Also, an editorial question: why was she wearing jeans and a t-shirt when the previous paragraph just stated that she was wearing a dress to school?

"On my first day of school, I wore my favorite dress. It was a local brand, and I had it for quite some time now. I thought it gave me a boost of confidence, as I was about to chart a landscape that, while similar to high school, was at the same time entirely different. I took a seat in front. There was a bunch of other girls giggling one row from me.

I overheard some snippets of their conversation, mostly about me. As I said, I’m a practical girl so I wore rubber shoes that day, since based on my classroom assignments, I had some serious walking to do. I was going for comfort, in jeans and shirt, rather than chicness.".

She was just probably referencing her first day of school in that paragraph but it doesn't translate so well. Also, nobody cares about people wearing jeans & t-shirts in college. Most people wear that. I just get a sense that either a) the author thinks too much or b) she probably did something else to make these girls remark about something as trivial as her clothes in the first place.

but the youth isn't simple, and the fact that the author willingly published this piece makes a number of these comments fair game.

Jeric, I really enjoyed looking through your HK photographs! It's so nice to see how other filipinos (especially filipino photographers like you!) shoot the place.

A lot of the buildings made in Hong Kong were all patterned after the international style building, right? Even Gehry's building in HK seems a little safe. I think that's why I prefer shooting in places like Sham Shui Po or etc. because it feels less generic. Also, JCCAC is so near my university! Literally 3-5 minutes away. It would have been nice if you visited my school! I hope you were able to check out their rooftop. My friends and I go there to take photographs and chill sometimes, when we're not too busy with school.Next time, you should visit when i'm there! I'll take you around to all the photogenic places :)

I do understand what you had to say, and I do respect everyone's right to have their own opinion on things. However, It's the opinion itself that I don't respect. How can I respect someone who who oppresses people for being who they are? If I feel so strongly about a cause, it only follows that I have strong words for it too. I will not apologize for defending gay people. This isn't even about me; It's about the gay community and what it does to them when people tell them to go into hiding with their relationships. It's ignorant. I have a lot of gay people close to my heart and so many people don't understand how hard their struggle with society has been. If we keep broadcasting other people's homophobic opinions that tell them to go into hiding then it's only right that we counterbalance that amount of ignorance and bigotry with awareness. Regarding the issues in this world, there will always be sides, and I have picked mine. I do appreciate the time and concern you took to write this to me, so for that, thank you.
