We are dependent of fossil fuels when electric cars and a weatherized home with solar panels would put an end to that, yet no one talks about it. We import food and pay farmers not to grow crops. Where is the media on this? Defense contractors make money hand over fist with every war we enter. Can anyone agree that no company, corporation or person should profit off of war, the lives of our military?

I am not against making a buck. But when the mega rich and corporations "buy" politicians to create laws and set policies that create an uneven playing field where the poor and Working Americans are forced to take a cut in pay and services so that that money can then be given to the mega rich and corporations, then there is something extremely sinful going on in this country.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Thanks Tabula

One thing I forgot to add. There have been moments when Obama has stuck his neck out to go after the RWingnuts. Remember when he threw that little dig at Faux News? And last week he tried to echo Blomberg in NY supporting the Mosque. Where were the DEMS?

There are a couple who will have Obama's back on some issues, but, by and large, their silence is deafening. Actually, it pisses me the (bad word here) off. The Dems in office got to stop lining up BEHIND Obama and start lining up along side him, and then take the lead. Can the Dems say surrogate?

Obama was awesome on Friday talking about religious freedom. It sucked that he walked himself back some on Sunday.

Did you hear Thom's show this morning? He really called it.

Anyway, if the Dems would step up, many and loud, providing cover for Obama, maybe we'd get even more accomplished. And maybe less watered down legislation.

As far as this poll goes, I think both the Right instilling fear, and the LameStreamMedia latching onto anything that will make the Right angry at lefties, made this non-issue and so many others a national topic.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Tabula

I hear ya on your comment that Obama is doing what he said he would do. I remember him advocating for Health Care "Exchanges" similar to what Congress has. I remember him saying we need to get out of Iraq and stabilize Afghanistan and the Afgan/Pakistan border by way of a surge. I remember him saying we need to close Guantanamo. These are some of the things he campaigned on and these are some of the things he is trying to accomplish.

I do believe that what a politician says when campaigning isn't quite what they do once in office. I believe Obama is trying to stand by his campaign promises, but like all elected officials, everything is subject to change. Who could have forecast the mess that was left by the previous Administration and their confederates in the RWing? I assumed Obama and the Dems would have to battle the RWingnuts in office to get anything done, but again, who could have forecast the extent that they would try to undermine Obama and the Dems at the cost of our Country's recovery?

My frustration lies in roughly three areas - the Corporate Media, the Dems in Congress and I do get frustrated with the Administration. I expect the CM to behave as they do, with their "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality. I remember the Health Care debate and all the rhetoric coming from the RWingnuts and the Tea Baggers - them busing across American to stop Health Care Reform. It seemed every news outlet and pundits covered it. What I didn't see was the Doctors' and Nurses' organizations in the news who were also busing across America supporting single payer. And Ben Nelson, he's still acting like a RWingnut.

Dems are known for their in-fighting. We form circular firing squads all the time. But in the end, I will support the Dems before I will support RWingnuts. I get frustrated with our side, but I will be forceful in my support of Obama. I recognize that he is pragmatic and that I want someone who is progressive. On election night Obama said to those that did not vote for him that he would be their President, too. But here's the deal, he and the Dems have been burned by the RWingnuts every time they try to work with the other side.

It's long been the time that we stop giving concessions just the have the bar raised after we do. Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football come to mind.

It drove me crazy when Obama went to Nebraska and praised Ben Nelson during the health care debate. I bitch about other things he does or doesn't do. But I truly believe that he has accomplished so much in spite of all the barriers the other side continually lay before him. And I believe he has the potential to do so much more if we can maintain our majority in both Houses of Congress.

Tabula, I know we can't act like the other side in our criticism of the Administration and some in Congress. But the way Rahm, Gibbs and others in the White House get after Progressives isn't right either. I try to make my criticisms constructive. It just gets a little hard to be supportive when some in the White House characterize lefties the way Fox News would.

I believe we got to push our elected officials to pursue an agenda that benefits Working Class Americans. We got to bring back manufacturing to this country. The Tea Baggers and the RWingnuts can't be the only ones making noise. Maybe we need to find a better to do so, a way that doesn't harm our side in the election. But the White House shouldn't say things that will alienate the lefties either. Obama is getting into campaign mode and we need to work together. I'm thinking both sides need to play nice.

By the way, Steph is a Gay Woman.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

You got to hand it to the RWingnuts. They really know how to fall in line with their leadership. When the RWingnuts' leaders say jump, the sheep don't say how high. They say was that high enough? Unlike the Right, we Dems/Libs/Progressives hold our representatives accountable. We call them on the promises they make then break, or that which they lead us to believe they would do, but then don't. We question our side just as we do the other side.

We expect the RWingnuts to berate our side. The "Professional Right" has made a fortune doing just that. But I don't expect the White House to join the other side in their efforts to disparage those, whose support gave the White House, the House and the Senate to Dems. Even with all the trouble the RWingnuts are having with the Tea Baggers and Micheal Steal (and I mean steAl), the leadership does not take to the airways to voice their frustration.

If there are Dems that resent the INTEGRITY of the Left, then don't ask us for anything; not for money, not to volunteer, not to support and not to VOTE for them.

We expect RWingnuts to infer, insinuate and just flat out insult us. I, at least, thought the White House was above that.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Tabula

I gotta agree whole heartedly. The media is lost. True journalism is as rare as a Republican with integrity, with the "People's" interest at heart. Corporations run this country. Wall Street, Big Pharma, Big Oil/Coal, Health Insurance Industry, Major Banks, Military Industrial Complex. We need a leader like Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. Someone who could mobilize the power of consumers and take back this country.

Move Your Money, Buy American, Go Green, Single Payer. These concepts could take the power away from corporations, strengthen the middle class and bring manufacturing back to America.

Who will lead us?

We have the infrastructure in place.

Who will lead us?

Who?

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

I really think the best way to "save the sanctity of marriage" would be to: make it harder to marry than it is to divorce, instead of the other way around; how about outlawing divorce; increase the penalty for all types of abuse by a spouse (physical, mental, emotional, sexual, verbal); make infidelity punishable to the level of an abusive spouse (see above); require both spouses married by church attend church together.

I hear the argument "the will of the voters". Does that make it okay for Californians, locally or statewide, to pass a law stating the only marriages recognized are marriages by court, you know, "civil unions".

If my marriage was so fragile as to be harmed by Gay and lesbians marrying, the question I would ask would be, "what's wrong with MY marriage"?

Whenever I think about anti-gay rhetoric, marriage or otherwise, I always think of those Right Wing Politicians, Religious leaders, Political Activists who were closet Homosexuals. You are always on the mark and that gets me fired up.

The corruption in the Republican Party, and the impotence in the corporate media do more harm to this country than our enemies abroad. The terrorists murdered alot of Americans, but the destruction of our economy, the 10's of thousands who die from a lack of health care, those Americans who will suffer financially and health wise because of the BP oil spill, the outsourcing, lying us into war, . . . and their only concern is POTUS is on the View. No wonder Sarah Pain-in-the calls them the lame stream media.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Depending on the accuracy, this is the price we pay when we try to go to war half-cocked. We didn't finish one war before moving on to the next - the next war being a war of opportunity rather than "National Security". We never budgeted for these wars, particularly for the physically and psychologically traumatized. Who could forget Rumsfeld, "you go to war with the bla, bla, bla, . . .". We lacked the military personnel needed. Can you say DRAFT? And we never asked Americans to make any sacrifices. Support the Troops - Go Shopping?

My solution; It's time to outlaw war profiteering. All military equipment, from uniforms to weapons to personnel carriers to protective gear should be made in the continental US. If the Nation's war commitment demands multiple tours of duty without allowing appropriate "down time", instigate the Draft, a Draft without waivers for being privileged or a student. Enough with the Dick Cheney's of the world. The National Guard should protect the Nation, . . . here. If the National Guard gets deployed overseas, instigate the Draft with no Dick Cheney waivers. And the country should make sacrifices. Raise taxes, give to the USO, appropriately fund the Veteran's Administration.

Just the same, taking the profit out of war would probably be all we need to do to stop our country from going to war impulsively.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Fiorina is the poster child of what is wrong with corporate CEOs. They don't care who they damage or whose livelihoods they destroy. Sociopaths? These are highly educated people. I refuse to believe that they don't know how much pain their business practices cause American Workers. I truly believe that corporations, their Board of Directors, seek out executives with such personality types that are beyond callous. Today's CEOs remind me of drug addicts who do anything for their fix. Think a heroin addict. Maybe I'm taking a really bad tangent, but I really do wonder.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

I agree with having more Ring of Fire. Heck, they're only on one day a week. I wish Mike and RFK jr. had a week long show. We need strong environmentalists going after the Corporate Polluters who receive massive tax cuts, paid for by Hard Working Americans, enabling billions of dollars in annual profits, and then having the American taxpayer pay for any toxic waste they dump onto America. Where are the American Patriots demanding that Corporate Polluters clean up their own mess, at their own expense. And, oh-by-the-way, how about ending tax cuts for billion dollar Corporate Polluters and giving small businesses, like real small businesses, like real Mom and Pop small businesses the Tax breaks instead.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Madison
Were you commenting in Nicole Sandler's chatroom yesterday? She's up in the Santa Cruz hills somewhere. You're the only the only Madison I've seen in the chatroom. Of course, that was before some "goofball" decided to give me a job. Randi was really on her game today. I just hope she continues to hammer the welfare recipients on Wall Street who took all the American Taxpayer money the Bush Administration and members of congress gave them to loan to small businesses, but instead hoarded the money, and return to corrupt, high risk investing so they can give themselves raises and more bonuses. Didn't it use to be customary to say "I'll call you" after screwing people? Come on Wall Street, at least lie to the American Taxpayers you screwed and say you'll respect us in the morning.

What will it take for ALL Americans to support a "Buy American" campaign? The way the blog and posts are managed is such a pain in the seating section. That was a major complaint for a few of us. By clicking blog under the "Interact" tab all the blogs are listed in descending order. I think something similar should be done in the "Recent Comments" section. Add a tab that us "loyal listeners" can click and view more than just a couple of recent posts. And yes, a General Blog is definitely needed. I think they stated the "Daily Poll" in lieu of a General Blog. We need a "Meet-Up" with KKGN.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Madison
Hello Dear Lady. It is so good to be blogging with you, Tabula and others again. I even saw Susan blogging. And yes, I have returned to work. I was a 99er. The one bad thing about returning to work - I am not able to stream Nicole Sandler any more. I listen to her podcasts, which isn't bad. But I sure miss chatting in her chatroom. I love when she refers to chatroom members during her broadcast. Such is life. Have a wonderful weekend.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Madison
I agree with cutting the pay of politicians. I think that every time the budget needs to be "cut" it should start with a pay cut by those who do the cutting. California is a prime example. Every year there's scrabbling about budget cuts. The Dems want to raise taxes and the Republicans want to slash spending on those who need help the most while giving tax breaks to the most affluent in the state. Any time the budget needs cutting, start with a percentage of pay/benefits of the elected officials in the state, starting with the governor.

I was listening to Nicole Sandler talk about how much time members of the US congress spend on raising campaign money, not to mention the amount of vacation days they get. On top of cutting their own pay/benefits during deficit years, it should be made illegal for elected officials to use official offices, resources and supplies, their staff or that time which is considered to be their official time, working in the capacity as an elected official, serving their constituents, for campaigning on elections.

Hell, aren't all of them millionaires? Didn't the Republicans Judges on SCOTUS allow corporations to sponsor those politicians who do their bidding?

One last thing: Tabula should be required reading.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Madison
Right on. We can argue what a fair share is and make my assertion about political party, but in the end the rich are positioned to screw the American taxpayer much more than some sixty something receiving social security and medicare regardless of who's in office because in my view, no party protects the tax payer more than they protect the upper classess.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

I love that this comment section is back online. I sure hope the regulars return to posting. I find it so frustrating that the clean up efforts are amounting to "out of sight out of mind". Once again the media demonstrates who are the Puppet Masters that pull their strings.

I agree with Tabula that after Big Oil finishes killing off what's left of the Gulf Eco-System, the only industry remaining will be drilling for oil.

It's obvious we can not depend on Politicians to protect us against "Too Big to Regulate" industries. They own the Republicans and have a majority share of Democrats.

We, the People need to flex our strength as consumers and follow the mantra of the corporate whores, "let the markets decide". Whenever possible, we need to avoid using fossil fuels, buy 100% American made products manufactured in the continental USA, support local farmers and push for Public Utilities that use renewable sources, especially wind and solar.

The electric cars are coming. Public utilities are coming. Farmers markets are on the rise. The Move Your Money campaign got a lot of press on some progressive outlets forcing some "mainstream media" sources to follow.

Even the Tea Party bunch and their leader Sarah Pain-in-the can't argue with a Buy American campaign without showing their true colors of trying to depress the country as a means to win back government control.

If you agree with our ability to move the direction of this country as consumers, that our buying power can make a difference, then please share your thoughts here and with every media outlet, website and talk show host you care to communicate.

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Tabula
I truly enjoy your digressions. Your mention of Sasebo brought many fond memories of my travels west onboard the decommissioned CGN-22 USS England as a young buck sowing my wild oats. I recall reading about Delay and company tainting the imagery with the structure implemented to coerce and promote pedophilia, prostitution and slavery for that which they worship, the almighty dollar. One of the few instances that these minions support abortion. It's hard to believe that there is a "media". How surprising the "media" is just now holding politicians to account. Hmm, I wonder why.

I loved Capt Kangaroo. Though I am a decade behind the old black and white classics, I do now catch Gene Autrey and company on the Encore channel. Remember Romper Room; Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney? Aww, the nostalgia.

I'm liking my new job, but it will be a spell before I know if it's permanent. And it is in my chosen profession.

I have always appreciated you taking the time to read my posts, and I miss our interaction with Madi and Susan. I hope to have time to chime in again soon. Until the next time, I am always comforted knowing that another one of your posts is just around the corner.

Take Care, Buddy.

Bring Nicole Sandler to Green 960!

Re: Green 960- Your progressive community - Blog

Ihulley
I've been doing my best to avoid using the name of he who I would like to see replaced by a Progressive voice who would better represent this Liberal region we call the San Francisco Bay Area. My preference is Nicole Sandler for two reasons: 1) she articulates like a Thom Hartman but, she gets after the Right as well as the Left like an Ed Schultz; 2) she can fill the 3-6 slot live whereas Big Ed would be delayed. I don't believe "we" are obsessed with anyone. Well, I am obsessed with Nicole. Regardless, I think it's more that we are committed to making a "change we can believe in", and that change would be to enhance the quality of programming of the only Progressive Talk Radio station in one of the most Liberal/Progressive regions in the Country. Just my opinion.
