This is about the Smothers Brothers, who were famously cancelled by CBS for their political material under pressure from the Nixon White House.

Laugh-In was on NBC, and petered out after 6 years before having a short-lived revival a few years later. That one was cancelled quickly not for political reasons, but for being dreadful.

The premise makes me think time would be better spent rewatching Dicktown, the FX cartoon with John Hodgman and David Rees where a former Encyclopedia Brown type is a grown up washout who lives on a houseboat with his best friend/former Bugs Meany, who is also a grownup washout. They solve cases for teenagers, because they're the only ones who will still bother to hire them because, you know, grownups don't really have that much use for trivia-based mystery solvers. It's on Hulu, and it's really good—and i'm sad it didn't keep going. There are like 3 or 4 seasons though, I think.

The actual creator of that one, Michael Kupperman, is VERY worth checking out in his own right. Pretty much any of his stuff is great, but the strip the Picasso cartoon is based on is in Snake 'n' Bacon's Cartoon Cabaret. His Tales Designed to Thrizzle is a must-read too.

Dang, this was one of the biggest disappointments. I was SO looking forward to a They'll Need a Crane cover because it's not just one of my favorite TMBG songs, but a really, like, underrated one?

And these jabronis do the most boring arrangement ever and cut out the entire back half of the song, including the bridge which is the entire like, centerpiece of the song.

The A.V. Club, please put this song back on the list so someone who bothered to actually learn it can do it?

Honestly, I would be really down for a show like this where it starts out "ha ha!! drunken hijinx!!" and then gets progressively darker and actually starts dealing with the consequences. Sort of like how the first 2/3s or so of Gilliam's adaptation of Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas is all "ha ha! wacky drug adventures!!" and then the last third shows all the horrible things they wrought, like with harassing the waitress and flooding the hotel room and all the ugly, nightmarish stuff that would come from actually having to deal with those 'wacky drug adventures', y'know?

I really enjoyed it, especially the first couple of seasons, where it was basically Police Squad But CSI, which was a great updating of the format. The last season kinda changed up the premise a bit, and wasn't as successful, but still enjoyable.

With the Spike animated shows, I mainly remembered the two obvious ones. When Rabin wrote up Gary the Rat, I went "oh yeah, that dumb show was there too."

I did not even _remember_ there was a fourth, and even though billytheskink mentioned the name of it, it _still_ didn't come to mind.

So, yeah, that probably does mean that it's the least offensive since it completely obliterated itself from my mind.

I saw her at coachella... christ, about 15 years ago now, i am old. ANYWAY, it was one of the worst performances I'd seen. She opened with this (way too long) news footage montage of people protesting for the release of (actual) MIAs (which seemed hella tone deaf). When she finally came out, she brought a hype man who spent 10 mintues rambling about her as she just sort of paced around the stage. She'd do a song, and then spend another 10 minutes fucking around while the hype man yammered.

....oh god, me too. I just thought that was a joke, considering I didn't think the lead in Salo would be a top star. Though I looked it up on iMDB and saw that while a lot of the actors pretty much DID stop after Salo, a few of the top-billed ones were doing all right for themselves, so hey!

But yeah, my brain went:
1. the Salo reference is a joke
