So for Spotify, using the numbers above, each person would have to have a combined total of plays for songs from the album of 2500 to make 12.50 from the listener. Spreading out payment for an album is probably okay to a certain extent but it's very unlikely to get this many listens per user.

I would guess anyone with over 50 plays of songs from one particular album is someone who would have bought it at 12.50 all upfront. Obviously this doesn't cover everything but from an individual user standpoint, this would suck for a label.

I think this would work awesome with bands if it had a full functional iPhone/android app and that the band members actually carried this type of phone. I know when I was on tour every 5 mins someone is asking when is load-in, is there catering or per diem, etc. As long as you have a solid merch guy, I could actually see this working. Well, until the band discovers where the beer is.

I agree that Hanson benefits much more as far as gaining street cred by trying to stay as close to the original as possible. While some of the vocals are kinda soulful (or high school musical if you want to look at it that way) my first thought when hearing him stray was Jeff Buckley. I think if Buckley covered the song it would be full on soul which was his style. Not trying to compare Hanson to Buckley but that's what popped in my head and it made the added soul vocals easier to swallow. I don't know if any of you guys ever listen to Lovedrug but the vocals sound exactly like the singer for that band. Good stuff.

That's the music from the 28 days later soundtrack that sounded like God Speed You Black Emperor (maybe some of it was them). I don't get what's being sold here. It's a robot invasion that goes nowhere. Awesome for a homemade clip and deserves attention for that but that's about it.

We are a company called Connected Ventures, a group of friends who work for: Vimeo, CollegeHumor, Busted Tees, and Defunker."

Hey I saw Jake & Amir too that means this must be College Humor right? Wrong. I said Vimeo staffers and friends. Thanks for your input Miko. It's good to know we have real investigative journalists looking behind us getting all the facts straight.

Wow the Satriani brigade has been let loose. Just to make a few things clear, I am a fan of Joe's but disagree with his decision to sue over a melody line. Maybe he's been hanging out with Lars too much. When I say I'm a fan I have seen him twice, bought every record from Surfing to Time Machine (including Dreaming #11), and have the tab book for every single one of those albums.

I spent countless hours studying his solos, as I was once a bedroom solo artist like most of you. Do I like Coldplay? Not so much actually. Believe it or not I can base my judgment on the actual event and not blindly stand behind it because I'm a fan.

As for his releases after Time Machine, they suck. Sorry but just because the dude can improv better than most could write over a period of years doesn't mean he can just stop being innovative and slap together shit and call it a record. It was great the first couple of times I heard it. For you guys writing in that only know him from you tube clips,comeback in ten years and we can talk.

I guess I should point point out that "Weapon Of Choice" was left off because of already having the "Praise You" clip by Fatboy Slim which we think is much better if you had to choose between the two.

Also notice that is a young Jason Lee in the Sonic Youth video.

Great tutorial, been looking for something like this. The only thing that would keep me from using this (cause I did get it to work) is the url length. I would love to see a way to convert those links into its own short url similar to digg automatically.
