As a Lutheran, these words of Pope Francis give me no comfort because they don't come out of a deep understanding or reconciliation. These words seem to me to be - what we Lutherans would call - cheap grace.

If there is to be reconciliation between Catholics and Lutherans, we'll know it -- it will be difficult, strenuous, and meaningful. Not this.

Kevin, I didn't think so either - most Buddhists have more important things to do.

There's a corner chance that it could be part of the recent Diwali festivals - there's a big link with Diwali and turtles - some of the festivals used to slaughter thousands of them. Kinda makes sense as the marking isn't like what National Socialists typically do.

I'd normally vote 'yes' to parks - but this is really just a for the Zoo and Aquarium. They're nice, but they really exist for Seattle's benefit - with traffic, parking, and high entrance fees, most people in King County won't be able to use them.

Come back for funding for *all* of King County and I'll consider it.

Without defending Trump, the author's idea that international relations is a high trust environment is laughably naive. In the last hundred hears - the most advanced, intellectual, and educated countries ever to exist have slaughtered each other and their own citizens by the millions.

Chuck is a fascinating man - he's helped me personally by convincing a local slumlord to stop renting to drug dealers, and yet, he's also probably driving his own neighbors up the wall.

Your're right that it's not a subsidy - but the poster is making the observation that given that the cost of government is relatively fixed, if one one taxpayer gets a break the the rest of the taxpayers have to make up for the shortfall and someone winds up paying - either landowners or tenants.

You're also right that the exemption isn't anything to get too excited about - but sometimes I get a bit frustrated that the exemptions are seem to only go to larger developers: I wanted to put a mother-in-law unit on the back of our property and had to scrap the project because of the unwieldy setbacks (weird car turning radius issues) that drove up the cost , crazy school mitigation fees, weird requirements about utilities, and other nonsense - I was looking at about $65,000 in non-value costs before ground broke for a basically noting much more complicated (from a structural standpoint) than a garage with plumbing. Oh.... had to spend $2500 for a geotech report that would have told us what we already knew. At the time, we would have had to pay basically the same fees as a full home even though the plat had already been paying taxes for 110 years.

We would have rented the two bedroom unit for about $1100 based on construction costs, but had to pass because of extra costs made it not worth the hassle.

It wasn't really Renton's fault - they have one of the better building departments around here - but it's a microcosm on why we have a housing shortage around here.

One the main reasons public transportation sucks - in my experience, there's a correlation between fare dodging and crazy, stinky, obnoxious, loud and boorish behavior.

I'd also add that Hillary Clinton also advocates for a different kind of torture by supporting Partial Birth Abortions:

A live baby is cut up into peices without anesthetic.

At least Republicans will stop torturing once they get their information, Democrats keep torturing even while the baby cries and shrieks.

I'm not a fan of Dick Cheney, and I'd like to tighten up the ability of the executive branch to wage war without Congressional approval, but it's downright uncharitable to say that Dick Cheney "loves" torture and murder.

To put things in perspective by distancing ourselves timewise: rotten things happened in Viet Nam, but nobody sane runs around saying John F. Kennedy loved torture and murder.

The mayor 'timed out' the gentleman that preceded me - as he should. 5 minutes is enough. I left in my horse-drawn chariot after my rousing speech, so I didn't see what came after.

A a courtesy I imagine, I've seen where time wasn't called when the speaker is obviously wrapping up. And at one point, I was given extra time when the council started asking me questions.

I'm quite happy with the way the city conducts the audience comment period, and if there's a rule to add, I would suggest that if anybody says "LaRouche" that they be immediately ejected.
