There are a lot of neighborhood cats around who think the planter looks like the largest and most luxurious litter box they have ever seen. Oi. Watering on a regular basis and actually having plants getting bigger in there has helped. You can do a lot with container gardens. I recently took a victory gardening course put on by LA county and they talked a lot about container gardening- I'll send you the PDF of the manual. I swear I will come see you someday before too long.

Congrats on the new place!

Re: Find a "Comfort Food" for Your Mind.

I, too, am a re-reader and re-watcher. I love watching Room With a View and Enchanted April (particularly this month!) and have read each book a number of times as well. I love the plots of characters who get stuck in very challenging circumstances and find their way to joy through bucking the status quo. Traveling to Italy doesn't seem to hurt either. Both are highly recommended and have no unjust accusations.

I am the same way, only my kiss of death plot turn is lovers who finally come together, only to be separated when one of them dies. Surprisingly common as well. I have never seen the end of Terminator, because I am too busy sobbing in my bedroom by that point. Aie. I will stick with the happy stuff, too.

Thank you!

Re: 3 Reasons Your Garden Will Fail This Year

Totally want to grow a farmer's market in my yard. But at least I really dislike raw tomatoes. So I must suggest you amend "everybody wants to grow tomatoes." I only like them cooked and while I know the home grown tends to taste better, I am perfectly happy getting them at the FM if I need them.

Thanks for the tips!

Re: Changing the little things that are in my control

I don't know that it's unfortunate that you haven't moved- I am very happy to have been in my current apartment for over three years- the longest I have been in any apartment since I left college. I love the ability to get the clutter clearing experience without having to move, but maybe that's just me. I am sometimes envious when people are getting settled into new places. But it would take a lot to find a place I liked better than this one.

Congrats on the drawer! I was thinking of doing a couple of storage baskets under my shelves in the dining room today... I need a fix.

Re: Changing the little things that are in my control

Dave-

Thanks for your thoughts. It has become a real delight to get rid of things. I am now on what I think of as Round 2: even further refining and getting rid of stuff. The office has gotten torn apart and made more user friendly once and it is likely to happen again.

Have you done any tearing up yet? I have friends who have started to do this since hearing about and seeing my place. I think just starting with one drawer or one shelf and seeing how much better you feel can be a big breakthrough. I just love the fact that you can put time in and see real concrete results right away. So little in life provides that and I love that impact.

Re: I thought I was immune to the opiate of the masses.

Dave-

So glad it isn't just me. I feel like a time traveler talking about American Idol like it's the new thing when it has been around ten years? Or more? But it's new to me and I think that's the best we can each do.

Let's take inspiration where we can find it, shall we? I won't heave my TV out the door if you don't. I get to watch educational stuff on it too, like all those magical documentaries on Netflix. May just have to dive into one now...

Re: The slight sluggishness that comes with the first week of January.

Aha! I do think we should make January off limits to stress and excess motion forward. After the holidays, we all need time to reflect and really get clear about moving into what's next. I have been trying to make time for this and it has helped enormously. Hope you can find a few spare minutes as well!

Re: The slight sluggishness that comes with the first week of January.

My pleasure. As someone out there in the dating world, it is often difficult to sort through what is really important in a partner. This list will serve as a useful tool for me. Congratulations on your anniversary! Much happiness to you. Thank you for inspiring those who are seeking partners along the way.

Re: Cool software for NaNoWriMo!

Yes!!! I am so glad you already added me. I have a general story I know I am using, but am staying open as I think it will evolve as I write it. I am going to put some section headings into Scrivener tonight to try to get some sense of sections before setting off on Tuesday, the big day! Good luck picking your story- I say go with the one you are the most excited about.

Re: Cool software for NaNoWriMo!

Dave- I am so glad you like it so much! I did the actual tutorial that came with it when I downloaded, which I almost never do, but I wanted to get to know the features.

I am very excited to get into NaNo mode again- it's one of my favorite parts of the year. What's your NaNo name? it would be fun to be buddies on the site.

Thank you so much for your kind words on the blog- it's always nice to know when someone is out there reading and connects to what I'm thinking about.

Happy writing!

Re: Cool software for NaNoWriMo!

Don't just flirt- do it!
