However, this is NOT the time to just say no. As I appreciate the voters may feel "black mailed" into voting for a lid lift or our "public mandated" services will be lost...the fact is...if we DON'T vote for the lift, those services WILL be lost. My greatest concern is for the 4-H program. Fact is...it will GO AWAY! It can't be saved under another county and it can not function through WSU Extension witout paid professional oversite...those are the rules. If the program coordinator position is lost...and it WILL be lost if the levy does not pass...4-H is history on our island. 4-H is one of VERY FEW children's programs we have in which ANY child can participate without cost to the family. The fees are volunteer and are used to support the added hours the program coordinator puts in at Fair time. WHAT WILL OUR KIDS DO WITHOUT THIS PROGRAM. I would encourage the voters in San Juan County to vote FOR the lid ift in November, then hold our heels to the necks of the County Council to ensure they spend our money wisely.

Re: 15-year-old driver kills jogger on Lopez - Islands' Sounder

Congratulations, Stupified and Shelly May. You have proven yourselves part of the crowd that kowtows to this media that desires to rile the masses who wear their hate and vengence as a badge. And, Stupified, your Biblical quote in this context shows you are not a Bible believer. Your heart is revealed in your pen, and it seems very black indeed. Please consider this...during the time that Rome was the power in the known world, a Roman soldier could legally require any one to carry his pack for a mile. Jesus suggested you carry it a second mile as a sacrifice, gift or to have a greater understanding io the other's lot. You both might consider this before passing your judgement on the families, parents and children involved.

Re: 15-year-old driver kills jogger on Lopez - Islands' Sounder

Dear Lopezian, The Journal continues to sensationalize these events in ways that can be considered tabloid-like in order to "get readers" and rile up our community. There's a difference between printing the truth and trying to find the worst and play the blame game. The "continued on" comment seems benign. However, you are right; it makes the incident sound purposeful and assumes motivations that were not involved. We do not live in Hollywood. We live in loving communities where people care about people and choose to rejoice with each other and cry with each other. Let's continue to support our neighbors and love them in spite of negative forces that work against that care and love.

Re: 15-year-old driver kills jogger on Lopez - Islands' Sounder

Dear Lopezian, The Journal continues to sensationalize these events in ways that can be considered tabloid-like in order to "get readers" and rile up our community.
