Let me state this--I don't know this coach. I don't know much about RHS, I'm totally looking at this from an unbiased view. I could pick apart most anything people write--for instance, if the cheerleaders can't go on without Rhonda, then they don't sound like they are nearly as dedicated to cheering as they are made out to be. This is a great opportunity to learn a valuable life lesson, as hard as it is to swallow. Things like this happen in the real world--as much as it pains us, we have to move on and make things better. Parents getting involved in anything rarely solves problems, it usually causes them. Since it's obvioius the coach doesn't want to talk and/or can't talk, and since it's obvious LWSD/RHS doesn't want to talk and/or can't talk, then how about focusing on the future....Who is the new coach? If there isn't one, where can one be found to allow these girls to do what they want? Which cheerleaders are interested in still cheering? If there isn't enough for a squad, then set a date for tryouts. Is there a way that these girls can still participate yet still have a connection with the coach--either as an outside instructor or as a friend? As parents, we should ask our children to react the way we would--if our boss is let go for reasons we don't agree with, will we quit on the spot, try to battle through it, or battle through as we search for answers?

Re: Redmond High School cheer coach dismissed; rumors swirl - Redmond Reporter

I have no doubt that the coach would like to talk, but it's her choice not to. It's not up to others. There is obviously more to the story that we may never know unless those involved speak up. LWSD has no reason to, and it's absurd to think they should speak up. If the coach isn't talking to make it easier on the kids, then perhaps that's the reason LWSD isn't talking, too. I just find it very hard to believe that if she was let go for anything minor that she wouldn't tell people--what's the embarassment if she really didn't do anything wrong? Besides--how about refocusing ideas/energy on correcting matters....those involved should be looking for a new coach, finding ways to make things work, etc. Let's not make it more difficult on the students, coach, and school district.

Re: Redmond High School cheer coach dismissed; rumors swirl - Redmond Reporter

I'd love to hear the entire story about this, but I applaud LWSD for handling this as professionally as possible. You can't just let someone's personnel records be open to the public--they'd be asking for a lawsuit. Let's not forget, it sounds as if this coach had the opportunity to give her side of the story to the newspaper and chose not to. Since this is her personal matter, I think she's the one who needs to share information if she thinks it's necessary.
