Sickening that we have become a society that publicly shames people for something as minor as this. These people put no one else's lives in danger and should be free to choose what levels of risk they take in life. I ride a motorcycle, I fly a paraglider and a paramotor. Driving my car without my seat belt is not at all risky compared to other things I do. Seat belt laws do more harm our society than any good. Welcome to the nanny state.

What a waste of public resources. Cannasense is a public company that deals in medical marijuana. I know of a special needs child who's parents have him using cannasense products under a doctor's care. Why are we wasting resources going after this guy instead of worrying about real criminals?

This is an awful program that limits the competitiveness of races. Its not any different that giving faster race horses a head start in a horse race. It rewards incumbents and perpetuates the two party system. This is not the role of government.

The reality is that it takes way too long to get drugs approved by the FDA. This costs lives. In addition the decision to make a drug over the counter or prescription based is often done based on lobbyists trying to maximize profits.

Reality and history shows the FDA needs to be rethought.

Ayn Rand's philosophy is objectivism. This was based on rational egoism. While there are libertarianish parts of objectivism, Rand rejected libertarianism. The base of libertarianism is the non-aggression axiom. Or to put it another way to value the use of persuasion over the use of force.

I’m sure that if you fall on the same side of the political fence as PIRG, that there are plenty of reasons for you to support NJ PIRG. However, as it stands, placing a "donation" on the term bill is not the proper way to do it

For one, it’s extremely unethical. The donation is hidden on the term bill as an automatic opt in. The description of what the line is for is extremely vague. Those paying the bill should not be expected to research every line item in their bill. NJ PIRG is a partisan political lobbying organization. The automatic opt in is deceptive and tricks parents into supporting a group that may be in opposition to their political beliefs.

For another, the way it is currently being done is illegal. Back in 1995 the State Legislature added 18A:62-22 to the NJ Statutes. This statute specifically forbids negative check off fees from being added to student bills for any organization “which employ legislative agents or attempt to influence legislation”. The PIRG line item is included on Rutgers bill as a negative check off.

The statute does allow for positive check-offs where the person paying the tuition bill must elect to include the fee with the tuition payment. The bill also stipulates specific language that must be included in any positive check off. This required language is not included on the Rutgers bill.

Furthermore, 18A:62-22 provides for the positive check off only when approved by a “majority of those students voting in an official student referendum”. Rutgers however uses a threshold of just 25%. How a majority can be interpreted as 25% is a mystery.

It’s ironic that an organization that purports to stand for fairness is using deceptive measures to fund its lobbying efforts. Imagine if a business was to do the same thing. PIRG has been instrumental in fighting the use of hidden fees and deceptive billing practices in universities and banks, yet does the same thing to Rutgers students and parents.

I urge students to vote down this referendum.

She wasn't. She had some libertarian ideals, but didn't agree with libertarianism. She supported war (like Hillary Clinton) and didn't support the libertarian non-aggression axiom.

The original liberal movement was libertarian. The age of the enlightenment was a revolt against centers of power like guilds, monarchs, and churches. Today's liberals demand centers of power. I call myself a classical liberal. The real question is what is wrong with today's liberals?
