I am a pretty die-hard fan* and I agree. It can be frustrating to re-watch as an entirety because Carter built a mythos he apparently couldn't handle in the end and so many threads never get completed, but if you go through and watch the best episodes? It's absolutely brilliant. They had so many talented writers working for the show that that's no surprise.

*Like to the point where I am pretty sure my habit of collecting trivia about media I consumed started with the X-Files. I would be sure to know after every episode the episode name, who wrote it, who directed it and any other info I could get my hands on.

Yup. I'm dating a guy six years younger than me and talking to him about the X-Files (which we do quite a bit) makes me feel old every time. Same goes for The Simpsons.

The X-Files was on from when I was 12 to 21. From 13-15 I was struggling to figure out my sexuality. The ONLY thing that had me end up coming out (correctly) as bi instead of (incorrectly) as a lesbian was my huge crush on Mulder.
