i'm not sure these are worship "genre" people, but can Shane & Shane and Bethany Dillon count? Maybe they could be special music. For some reason they just lead me right into the presence of God... i suppose you'd call that annointing. :) there's just something about the way they speak about the Lord and refer to the Word that's different. a unique kind of reverence, i guess.

interesting conversations. i'm teaching ESOL this year in a metro-atlanta public school (95% Hispanic...3 students from Korea + 1 from Vietnam) and one thing i've noticed is how much racism and legal status is on the very forefront of the minds of my students. for example, i could tell a student he needs to wait to go to the bathroom (because we're beginning an assignment or something) and he'll immediately respond, "it's cause you're racist." or, i could ask another student to please focus and do his assignment and he'll respond "you don't like me because i'm illegal." ??? i really don't care if they're legal or not. i just find it interesting that these students (who are 14-19) assume i'm a racist because i'm white. i've even asked them before, "do you think i'd hang out with y'all all day if i was racist?" and they respond, "it doesn't matter. you're white." that being said, i feel like i have pretty good rapport with my students -- they love to come visit after school, introduce me to their families, etc. -- but i just never realized that assumptions about racism were so prominent in their minds. it's sad that society has conditioned so many of them to think that way. the only reason i took the job anyways was because i think they matter to God and i want to love them like Jesus and help them know they're valuable, even if it's only for a couple of hours a day when i'm with them. incidentally, that's the same reason i've taught white students and black students in the past. because they matter to God so they should matter to me. i've just never encountered so much blatant discussion about racism from students.

i love visiting cool churches tagged "innovative." it's fun. their bands are awesome. most i've visited have kickin' lighting systems and immaculate sound. and it's all great because they're using it to lead people to Jesus.

however, for me, it's dangerous to get caught up in all of that. buckhead's doing an awesome job being buckhead. newspring's doing an awesome job being newspring. granger's doing an awesome job being granger. but i work at a church called the vine.....and our job is to do an awesome job being the vine. does that make any sense? we need to seek wisdom in the Word daily, pray for creativity, listen to the Spirit, and just be us. our own vibe; our own culture....our own community we're entrusted with to love people in the name of Jesus.

Los' first post is right-on. It's just like people who say they "want to be contemporary." what?!?! wanting to be something you're not is striving. people see right through that. if you're contemporary, you just ARE. your people are. your mindset is. the same goes with innovation.

ya know? the singalong really wasn't that weird to me. i think it's because i usually get my worship on via newspring.cc (or while driving) so i'm used to singing alone....the leader just isn't live. think about what impact lifeshare-type programs could have for people who are shut-in or who live in remote areas...life changing! thanks for sharing the movement with your readers.

we started the Big Give... a competition between our cluster groups to see who can take the money we give them ($500 each) and multiply it the most! all of the $$$ is going to two local ministries...one for the homeless and one for orphaned children. very exciting!

so...it was Matthew 25 - the parable of the talents.
