The first regular car seats were gently used so no cash out of pocket. Strollers were a different story.

Re: More details on using a portable air conditioner in your steel casement windows

Hi Kim -

Are you wondering how or why I cut it slightly smaller?

If it's why - the window is old with multiple layers of paint which means it can be uneven and a perfect fit isn't worth the effort. The rubber gasket takes care of the fit.

Rob

Re: Jet Lag

I know this comment is late in the game, but here's a list of tips I've found work to sleep on the plane and avoid the jet lag. My regular business travel routes have been NYC to TLV (coach), NYC to JFK (coach), NYC to Delhi (coach).

Getting Sleep on the plane:

1. Ambien - I know you said no drugs, but I recently got a prescription and they work really well.

2. Sleep Mask

3. Foam ear plugs - get a bottle of them at CVS.

4. Neck pillow - I have the Thermarest and it works great http://amzn.to/RWBKOx I find some of other pillows don't have enough give.

5. Window seat (to avoid people climbing over you and waking you up plus the wall can serve as something to lean up against.

6. ExOfficio underwear - http://amzn.to/VHWhRU - Tim Ferris turned me onto them and from a long flight and staying comfortable they just work.

7. Dress as light as possible with layers - it's always easier to bundle up versus get cool if the plane is really warm.

8. Plenty of water.

Once I land:

1. Get as much sunlight exposure

2. Ambien before bed by 12 midnight local time

3. Workout the next morning and sweat.

Re: How to use an air conditioner and not destory your steel casement windows

Ben - it has been truly drain-less except for the end of the season. We've got users of all ages and tech abilities
using them which leads to issues.

Re: Social Networking vs Email

Agreed, stated much better than I did.

I still wonder if the email protocol could have evolved to handle other
add-ons like instant messaging, etc? Obviously the clients would need to
support, but then you'd have interoperability.

Re: Social Networking vs Email

But do you think if email evolved it could have become what we see as
facebook today, but instead it would be an open system?

Re: Social Networking vs Email

Could it be that email never really evolved?

What if the standard protocols and feature sets had innovated such that other services could have powered better spam filtering/priority lists, photo sharing, etc...

Email has user authentication, if the inbox had evolved earlier maybe there wouldn't have been such a rise in social networking. Gmail from my perspective was the most recent major change in how an email service serviced the user.

I'd prefer open social networking standards that wouldn't lock me into one platform.

Re: Thoughts on the iPad

My wife had the opposite reaction - she's excited for the Kindle app on the iPad along with watching Netflix and some light emailing.

There's no question the lack of multi-tasking is a big miss - I look forward to the day I can stream Wolfgang's Vault and read.

Re: http://www.celiacfoodreviews.com/2006/01/pizza-natures-hilights-brown-rice.html

Kelley it's great to hear the entire family enjoyed it!

Re: Shop-Vac to the rescue - How not to unclog a shower drain

True a video would have been great, but you'd be missing most of the
dialogue due to bleeps.

Re: Realtime Bidding for Cloud Computing

Interesting thought on the optimizing the arbitrage. June has
almost all rain on Long Island and that's key nectar flow time.
