Nice to meet you...Southern Utah ROCKS!!! Thanks for the kind comment. Yah, I hear ya...just being in the forest gardens...brings life...we breathe it. Surrounded by falling pine pollen, soil bacteria and the SUN!! This = pure JOY!!! Cheers to the mighty pine pollen/ pollens of all types and living in our food forests. Hope you found some good springs around here...there are SO MANY...sacred land indeed!! It's like hunting for gold!!! Cheers to the hunt!

I sure do! I top dress with it, put it in all my planting holes...and spread it EVERYWHERE!!! You can't really over apply it...

Bummer on the aloe...I hear ya though...I lost a few last week too...even with the micro climate under the porch. The others are stressed, but I think they'll come back. Yours should come back to life, or at least hold steady, inside the house until spring. It's been realllly cold eh? 10F. is cold for any plant...geesh.

Very cool, glad to hear you're doing the low tunnels this winter...great crops too!!! I'm growing similar cold crops under my tunnels. You guys inspire me!!!! We're all in this new way of living and growing...TOGETHER! I'd love to come visit your garden mid winter..and compare notes. :)

You can probably use the stuff from the health food stores. I haven't been able to find organic chia in the stores around here. Most of it is labeled "Grown without Chemicals" which is cool, but I've been looking for organic and heirloom strains. I purchased mine by the pound "ORGANIC" from Mountain Rose Herbs, then broadcast spread it. I then covered it with a nice straw mulch and watered. I also fed them and the soil with rock dust.

Seeds of Change sells "heirloom Tarahumara Chia" but it's very expensive, for just a few seeds. Not the route I'm taking.

THIS IS SOOOO TRUE... Tend to the soil...and all our thumbs suddenly become GREEN. No special talented gardeners among us...the worms and the soil critters do most of the work!!

Then with seeds like you're offering at Blackbird...the forest garden just takes care of itself!!!!

Things are well here in Utah...we're expecting our first freeze in the next week or so....out shoving garlic in the ground and getting a few low tunnels ready for greens ALL WINTER!! New post and vids coming up soon. Hope you're well too...I dream of my first hobbit grow bed! Speaking of hobbiton....have you see these homes from Bag end..? My goodness they're awesome!! Ulyana, I feel ya on "Spiritual Nutrition" in my opinion one of the best books ever written. One of those books you can read cover to cover...for the rest of you life...and still catch new insights for all parts of life.
