Too much does seem to create a strange reaction, but there is a huge difference in quality. Go for birch and organic if you can find it.

Just like stevia, you want to be careful with dosage. Not because it's too sweet, but because large amounts can 'set you off' if you're not used to it. It's best to combine multiple no-sugar sweeteners to get the desired effect. Or combine with small amounts of honey. Honey and a pinch of stevia go a long way if you're not on a sugar-free diet.

That being said, it will be interesting to see where all the research and direct experience of users leads us in the next few years with all the sugar-alcohols like xylitol, erythritol, malitol, etc.

~ JS Ohlander

Re: Chocolate Math

Chocolate can tell no lies. :)

Re: It's a New Day: Why I am No Longer a Vegan

Congrats for speaking your truth Debbie! Glad so many people are enjoying the resource and finding it valuable.

It's great to have so many options out there. We don't do 100% spring water either. Our spring(s) here in MN have a fairly high-medium TDS count. We have a local store that does RO, UV, oxygenation, carbon, etc. to the city tap water. Turns out extremely clean. We mix this with our spring water to create a nice 50/50 ratio.

As Daniel says, we each need to come up with our own "water strategies".

~ Justin

Re: Roasted Maca 'Coffee' Elixir Drink Recipe

Have had Cafix before. But don't feel bad, this is a journey, not a destination. There is no one "perfect" diet for everyone. Explore those foods that call to you and then see how they work for your body.

In regards to pointing you in any specific direction, most of the information we have culled has been from multiple locations. We're going to do our best to try and make it easy and accessible via some posts on this site (and our new site!).

For now, we would recommend checking out the Weston A. Price Foundation here: http://www.westonaprice.org

Also, Sally Fallon has quite an amazing book called Nourishing Traditions. It's a little overwhelming for a vegan first getting into animal foods, but do check it out and read through it when you get a chance.

Hope that helps!

~ JS

Re: Does Fat Really Make You Fat?

Gotta love the fat! ;)

Hope you are well, Jeanne! Maybe that is what has happened to Victoria Boutenko? She was so thin for so long, and then just ballooned. I knew she completely eschews most fats of any type.

Then again, I've seen low-fat vegans remain extremely thin, but they start looking gaunt and start having many other complaints and issues. B12, teeth loss, etc.

Everyone is different, but I think most of us are realizing we need to open ourselves up even more.

~ JS

Re: Does Fat Really Make You Fat?

Ann - I'd have to agree with you. I think a lot of these people have one or two keys to the puzzle. And like a good investigator, it's up to us to find all the pieces and put them together in a way that works for us individually.

I think the reason Mary and Sally may not have 'the glow', is because they are just as negative to the raw vegan movement as us raw vegans were/are to their movement. I think they are missing out on all the wonderful things the raw vegan world has to offer: green juices, green smoothies, cleanses, detoxing, superfoods, etc. If they were to include more of these, they would see more results in their overall health.

Just my opinion, tho. :)

~ JS

Re: Does Fat Really Make You Fat?

Hi Kali!

It's been wonderful hooking up with you and following you FB as well! But what I've come to realize is that it's not that simple. Not even close.

That's why the raw movement got so big. Eat raw food = healthy. Hey, worked great for a while, but then as we all got deeper into it, we realized that isn't entirely true. Back to the drawing board.

And you are so right...this journey will never end. Those will thrive and survive (and surthrive!) will be the ones always keeping up with the latest and greatest. Stretching themselves, growing and changing. Never taking dogma again or any single person's ideas as truth.

I'd be more than happy to share some warrior juice with you. Hit us up next time you're in town! We couldn't agree more and our experiences have proved to us (personally) that this is now the path. It'll be very interesting to see where this all takes us in the future.

My theory is that the raw food/living foods movement will split: one is going this way, the other will be an extremely dogmatic, vegan, 80/10/10 type of crowd.

I've put my friends and family through enough dietary changes and domga to never ever put down what they eat again.
