Folks need to learn not to respond so fast, without knowing the context. And they should develop a sense of humor :-)

Re: http://straightnochaser.org/2007/12/notes-on-prk-eye-surgery/

Found this blog after PRK over the past month (I did one eye at a time, 3 weeks apart). Still, good to read your and others' experience. The doctor not fully informing the patient appears one common cause for concern. I am glad I went to Duke Eye in Durham, NC, and worked with Dr Preeya Gupta, who is relatively new, but very communicative. Answered all my questions patiently. Duke was also more 50% expensive than a private clinic I checked out... But totally worth it, I think.
This has also inspired me to write up my own experiences on my blog. Cheers!

Re: http://randomsubu.tumblr.com/post/31983101294

Stupid talking points masquerading as comments will be summarily deleted.
I do not approve of the comment below, but that is just an opinion, and hence, has been un-deleted.

Re: Was the Dissent Originally a Majority Opinion?

Read Scalia's opinion/dissent again. He refers to Ginsburg's "dissent" while discussing only the individual mandate-under-Commerce Clause-and-Necessary/Proper reasonings - Section I of Scalia's dissent, in which he was in the 5-4 conservative majority.
Section II of Scalia's dissent deals with the penalty-as-tax, which is what carried the day for CJ Roberts.

Re: Which Is Better: Hybrid or Fuel-Efficient Conventional?

I recently leased a 2010 Prius - got a good deal. I liked the VW TurboDiesel, but the new models at 30 mpg city/42 mpg highway are not as fuel efficient as the older models (going by VW's ratings.) I also drive mostly in the city, where the Prius has a decided advantage over any other car. (Yes, I do bike as well.) So far, I've averaged 48-50 mpg including a couple long highway trips. Maybe eventually trade it in for a Plug-in Hybrid (and when Boulder moves completely to renewable energy... Yay!)
But yes, consider the mix of highway and city driving. TDIs may be attractive to your intended purposes, but they often sell for a premium above the Edmunds TMV, and as others point out, the smaller cars (or even a Corolla-sized vehicle) might give you just as much fuel economy on the highway.

Re: Are You Real or Are You Memorex?

I am not a big fan of auto-messages. Besides, apparently there were other such "sting" operations which, as you point out, didn't produce the "desired" results. There was the story of the ACORN employee who fed the undercover "reporters" a story about how she killed one of her ex-husbands... Or one where the employee reported the incident to a local cop.
And you are right about the Internet video - when you don't have the original, you don't know how the tape was edited. There are certain members of the media - I won't name them - that I stopped following because they didn't know how to use Twitter.
But as far as I am concerned - you are doing a pretty good job. This sort of parsing-the-words scandal is just typical of DC, and something that needs to be changed. But it's a free country, and you and others like you are free to screw up Obama's image all on your own.

Here's a practical reason not to pile on to Senator Clinton - such piling on does not further the cause of Party unity. And much as you might think otherwise, any increase in independent/young voter/African-American support is not going to make up for a loss of Clinton supporters, who make up 50% or more of the Democratic party base. Sorry. It just won't.

Re: She will never be president

I second Maggie's reading. It's only after reading these comments that I figured some were interpreting her examples to mean that she's waiting for something to happen to Senator Obama. I am a firm Obama supporter, and I disagree with these uncharitable interpretations.
As Senator Obama repeatedly points out, we have to take the high road - how else do we raise the level of political discourse?
