She will go back to fishing, hunting and snow-machines and become a human-interest footnote in the history of our country.

Oddly enough, there was a letter-to-the-editor in today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch suggesting the same GOP ticket for 2012. Maybe we're onto something here. :)

Re: Obama Asks the Logical Question

You know I have, Jason. Other than Claire McCaskill, my reps are pretty conservative. I'm working on them, though!

Any progress on Hannity yet? :)

Re: Obama Asks the Logical Question

He made the reference to "logic" twice in his comments so I made the Spock connection. I didn't watch enough Star Trek (or at least it's been 20 years since I have) that maybe my memories of laughing at Spock's comments are all wrong.

Please expound on the before and after states. I'm not sure I'm following you on that. Why would it need to be self-funding before it's start-up. If we save the US economy a lot of money. which eventually gets reinvested as capital to compete globally, I'm not sure it's critical to be self-funding before hand. But maybe I'm misinterpreting your point.

As for my views, Dr. Reich had a good post earlier this week http://tinyurl.com/nhd287 that kind of sums up how I feel on the public option subject and the arguments against it.

Preamble: If that's what justifies the existence of our government, then government involvement in those areas is OK. It's up to the courts (and the people through their representatives) to interpret whether government is adhering to the methodology laid out thereafter.

Re: Obama Asks the Logical Question

Thanks for chiming in, Bill. I merely thought it was humorous. I do get tired of hearing, "the government can't run anything right" with regards to this issue. Later one of the reporters actually referred to Obama's Spock-like demeanor. The president responded that he hoped it wasn't "in reference to my ears." That was funny, too.

In reference to your point though, yes, I understand how capitalism works. The president understands this as well. Actually, I gave a short form of his answer above because it made me laugh. The longer form was about 8 minutes long. Here's the link to that portion of the press conference. http://www.youtube.com/watc... . If you start at about the 4:55 mark he talks specifically about the public option. The key part is, he acknowledges that the concerns of private insurers are mainly: "If any public plan is being subsidized by taxpayers endlessly that, over time, they can't compete with the government just printing money." Yes, we all agree that the "public option" needs to be self-funding after it's start-up.

Personally, I'm for helping private business by providing "universal" health care. Take the "benefit" burden off the businesses and see if they can compete better in the global marketplace. But that's just me....

Seems like the aim here is to just to make an affordable Medicare/Medicaid type coverage to the un-insured and small businesses. I don't see a problem with that. In reality they already burden the entire system.

Also, I have no problem with government incenting other segments of the economy by getting involved, as long as it to "form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity". If we can got to war in other countries over our "self-interests" and provide for the common defence, we can certainly promote the general welfare a little by paying attention to our "self-interests" at home.

We differ. Big surprise. That's why I love this country. Sometimes it like watching sausage being made, but, man, does it ever taste good!

Re: A Very Impressive Hire at UNO

I will be forced to divide a lot of loyalties with Minnesota, Bemidji State and UNO in the same conference. I have also met so many great UND fans throughout the years. The pecking order will probably be BSU, UNO, UND and Minnesota.

Re: Conan's new stage looks like Super Mario

A keen eye.
