That way your tests don't have to be stateful and all the building/creation code resides in a builder that you can share across test classes.

<dc:creator That's a weird one. You usually get that if you've just called logElement() or logElementTree() on an element and then try to access it again. Learned that the hard way. :P

Re: Alex Vollmer — Working with UIAutomation

Now I know why I couldn't get any of the 'where' finders to work! The documentation didn't seem very clear about the fact that they depend on accessibility labels. Ended up wasting an hour on that one.
BTW, I picked this up just today and instantly felt the need to write a test framework around this. The existing model with UIALogger is just weak for anyone who's been sufficiently test-infected.
Nice post, BTW.

Re: Objective C: Back to being a novice

WRT TDD, actually I spent a couple of days setting up a GHUnit [ http://github.com/gabriel/g... ] enabled project and it taught me loads about ObjC, XCode and how libraries interact in the IDE. DId the trick for me, at least for now. Although I like the fact that tuneup pushes the target and app into the test body and you don't have to write the boilerplate to look it up every time. All the tree walking still makes my fingers bleed, thought. :P

Re: Alex Vollmer — UIAutomation Test Fixtures Redux

I'm about a week behind you! We just hit this problem and (since we were building the specs with jasmine) we stuck the setup into carefully placed setup/teardown callbacks (yech!). However, I'd prefer to set up my initial state from outside the app as far as possible, at least for acceptance tests. I'd like to figure out if we can do this in the JS itself.
And, before I forget, I'd be a little wary of code generation. I'm scared when I can't explain ti fully in production code, generating test (setup) code just spells non-determinism for me! Not saying that we can't make it deterministic, but I'd say that's too much work.
Good stuff though, nice read.
