Winning in this market has always meant a ground war. It's ugly. And people still try to win it. Saw these new guys at a neighborhood event: http://www.thebolditalic.com/. Don't know who's behind them.

On the other hand, the user-generated local content market has some potential - see http://www.nextdoor.com. It's actually becoming useful in my neighborhood, but it's taken them a while to get there.
