The queer historical novel Sugar Land by Tammy Lynne Stoner. In some ways it’s a love story, albeit a sad and then happy one, but mostly it’s an exploration of one closeted woman’s often difficult choices in Texas from the 1920’s onward.

Quick clarification: Online the essay is titled "The Personal-Essay Boom is Over," not "The End of the Personal Essay." I'm not sure if it was in print under a different title.

I loved the memoir You'll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein and the hilarious and sexy romance Nuts by Alice Clayton. I'm most looking forward to The Hating Game, which I've heard wonderful things about!

This is not really a "nerd" crush (okay, it's not at all) but Jackie Collins replied to one of my tweets and I was all excited. But seriously, I've gotten to meet authors in person and struck up email friendships with them by basically telling them how much I loved their books. I suspect authors are easier to crush woo (or whatever the term is, I made that up) than a TV star or something, but authors are totally my rock stars. I have a writer friend who goes out with an actor and since I don't watch TV I barely even know the show he's on, but that she wrote a novel totally impresses me.

Love all of this! Yay nerds. And writers. I've found that Twitter is a fabulous tool to be a fangirl without looking (too) weird and have even gotten responses from writers there I wasn't expecting to. I have celeb crushes who are, well, less on the nerdy side but I'm with you that smartness trumps everything else in my world.

I've never had Pop Rocks! I like sweets but not when I'm really hungry cause it just makes it worse. I like these vegetarian jerky snacks. They're chewy and tasty and work well as a holdover.

I didn't make any New Year's resolutions this year because I have such all or nothing thinking that if I fail even once in my resolution I figure the whole thing is shot. That being said, I really hope to not bounce any checks or get any overdraft fees this year. I do say this every year, and each time it happens think it'll be the last, but hopefully this time it really is.
