I was not advised or aware that I didn't own the equipment OR that by installing the DVR I was somehow agreeing to a new 2 year service agreement on our existing Direct TV Agreement. When I found this out I called Direct TV who were rude and arrogant and basically said I was screwed and had signed up for the agreement and they would hold me to it, tough luck, I should have read the box. I emailed their Corporate Office Customer Service office and complained (go to http://investor.directv.com... - contact Ellen Filipiak, Sr. VP of Customer Care - email link on that webpage.)' They called and emailed me back, and I demanded to communicate in writing by email. First thing I did was cancel the AMEX card that automatically billed the DirectTV monthly charges so they couldn't grab my money. Then I called them to cancel service and was told I'd have to pay $460 early cancellation fees. I filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau in California and in Illinois where I live along with complaints to the Attorney General's office. I demanded Direct TV send me the signature pages of the agreement authorizing an additional 2 year service agreement. I also sent the corporate customer service folks the following link and told them I would be instigating a similar class action lawsuit: www.consumerwatchdog.org/co.... This morning I had another email back from Direct TV Corporate advising that they couldn't provide the signed authorizations and - quote - "After additional review of your account and emails, we removed the two year agreement and cancelled the recovery kit for the HD DVR receiver only. This decision was based on the unique circumstances regarding your account. "

I guess they figured I'd cost them more money and trouble than they stood to gain by ripping me off. Give em hell, they must make millions off folks who don't fight them back.
