Thanks so much for visiting EcoPop TV and for your comment. Yeah, I thought that W series VAIO was so cool. The computer case was brilliant because it's something we all end up needing for the computer. Not sure how they shipped them to the stores but hopefully less packaging was involved. Your AC adapter idea is great. Just shows there are so many components and parts of the manufacturing process where improvements can be made. It's all about innovation!

Re: EcoPeek: Win a PaPaYa Love water bottle!

Thanks Melanie! Ok, I'm gonna go with bugs. Might taste a little strange going down but won't give you cancer. Plus fried crickets are a delicacy in other countries so you really missed a culinary opportunity there.

Re: The $500 Cherry Tomato

Mine is more like gray.

Re: The $500 Cherry Tomato

Well, that really is my point. Unless you have the time to really truly tend to a large garden, I'm not sure you can get enough yield to justify the cost. Like most folks, I love the idea of having a garden. Heck, I even love gardening but if it doesn't produce then it seems to really defeat the purpose unless the purpose of a garden is to drive you crazy in which case it's been very productive.

Re: The $500 Cherry Tomato

Seems to me like you're on the right track. I've heard of folks growing tomatoes in pots but it's hard for me to talk abut tomatoes as you know. This site has lots of info on growing veggies in pots: http://www.gardenguides.com...
But even the seemingly "easier" potted veggies can be trouble. Just check out Jennifer's comment below. Meanwhile, I'll stop at the Hollywood Farmers market and pick up some tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and with your basil we can have caprese on your balcony. I'll be there in 2 weeks.

Re: The $500 Cherry Tomato

Dang, thanks for the awesome compliment! I know exactly what you mean. Every single time I had a beautiful strawberry ready to pick the next day, a slug would get it that night. They just know. Slugs know.

Re: Green Oil Companies?

Kathy, yeah it's all pretty tricky huh? It's like Lisa said, they got us because buying gas really isn't something we even want to do so if they spoon feed us the vague concept of greeness we vaguely accept it because we really don't even want to know the truth, we just want to get our gas and go. When an event like the Deepwater oil spill happens though, we're faced with the truth and faced with making harder decisions.

Re: Green Oil Companies?

Hi David! Your comment makes me think of how hard it is to turn around the culture of driving. I've never lived outside the U.S. but I know that here there is a macho element to driving as well as a freedom element. We drive just for the sake of driving. We drive to explore. We drive to expand ourselves. We drive just because we can. There are so many positive concepts attached to driving and maybe those were invented by car company advertisers but it's how how it is so part of what we have to do is rebrand driving they way we did with cigarettes. How long did that take? How many people had to die of cancer before smoking was finally considered uncool? Makes me wonder how many more oil spills we have to have....

Re: Green Oil Companies?

Hi Kevin! Thanks so much for the comment. You're right there is no clear cut answer. I would like to think that our choices at the pump do send a message so for now I'm avoiding BP too but when people boycotted Exxon it certainly didn't put them out of business.

Re: Green Oil Companies?

I did notice a BP station I used to go to now has one of those "neighbors & friends" signs which made me feel bad but I still can't pull in there. I think I will continue to try to get gas from independents although I realize this is not a solution because they are buying their gas from somebody. I think what's amazing is that across the board, we are becoming more aware and demanding to know more about that "somebody." From food to clothes to gas, we want to know, "where did this come from?" The decades of thinking things magically appear to us completely pollution and conflict free are over. To be honest, it's exhausting and I can see why we had our heads buried for so long but that ignorance got us here.

Re: Green Oil Companies?

Geez Owen and you don't even consider yourself "green."
