Like you I believe that folks should open and play with figures - they're toys, they're meant to be played with IMHO. Having said that, I also believe that people should be allowed to collect things in whatever form they want without being judged. I do know LOTS of folks who collect and keep them MOC. While a couple of them may be hoping to retire on this collection, I believe they are in the minority. Most people know that these types of collections are not going to make them rich - pretty sure the comic industry from the 90's and Beanie Babies proved that you can't make a collectable with a high ROI, it happens through supply, demand and love of the item. The folks I know that collect MOC Vintage Kenner toys do so because they love them. It seems to be more for the nostalgic factor and because they can. People collect things all the time without being concerned with the ROI, my borderline hoarder of a mother is a perfect example of this, they do it because they love it.

The people I see at conventions and other places selling Vintage and Modern Kenner toys for top dollar are a different breed. I don't see them as collectors like myself and those who collect SW because they love SW. Those folks are usually selling lots of other types of collectables as well. They seem more like opportunists that are preying on those of us that now have a disposable income and long for the joys of our youth. While I think it's not cool, we do live in a capitalistic society and that stuff happens on many fronts. I've heard stories of people having to sell off a childhood collection to make some money to pay off a debt or similar situation, but it always seems that they had to do so to make ends meet and were very sad that they had to do so.

Ok, I'm rambling... You make some valid points in your article, but I believe you a speaking of a vast minority of actual collectors. I was little offended reading this, I think you made some very broad judgments here. There are profiteers in this circle and I think that they upset others who collect for the love of it as much as they upset myself. Actually, I'm now wondering if you wrote this hoping to stir up a little controversy and get a few more hits on the website. I hope that's not true because if so, you're no better than the 'collectors' you seem to have a problem with.

Re: Look At What You've Done To Yourself!: Ukranain Girl Fulfills Dream Of Becoming Real Life Barbie Doll

Ahhh creepy, it looks like someone took a Real Doll out for a day of photographs.
