Even though we said 'negentien negenennegentig' (1999) and everything. It just sounds different. In English I don't feel this difference in the sound.

Re: Scripting News: I now see Stallman's logic

I was looking through my own Disqus settings and I found something called "Truncate comments". So, at the moment, I don't care much about the costs, as it is all a mental exercise.

With regards to buildings and earthquakes you could be right, I'm no architect or geologist.

Re: Anti-Fragility - Peter Stuifzand weblog

An example that I was thinking of is evolution. In this example the predator is a shock and the group becomes stronger. However, what is good for a group is not necessarily good for an individual. Some individuals don't survive, because of the predator. The individuals that do survive are probably stronger and are more resilient to that predator. Because of this the group will survive in the long run. So in a way all species bet on anti-fragility.

Re: Anti-Fragility - Peter Stuifzand weblog

Taleb explains a way where there is something better than robustness, called anti-fragility. Taleb explains how a package in the mail becomes better from shocks. You should read what he wrote about the marketing orientation (http://webspace.ship.edu/cg..., as it seems to apply to this article.

Re: Anti-Fragility - Peter Stuifzand weblog

So instead of waiting for the 'world' to create the shocks, you create the shocks yourself. The system as a whole becomes better when the found problems are fixed.

But don't you think this only leads to robustness instead of anti-fragility? You shake the box, open it and see its content in pieces. It becomes better, but only after you fix the problems.

Re: Google's problem - Peter Stuifzand weblog

That's also a good point. Another place where Google can improve is in the backend. Google needs to download every page that can be found through its interface. The downloading of these pages also takes time. At some point this can only be improved by improving the websites themselves.

Re: Google's problem - Peter Stuifzand weblog

Yes, among other things. Normally it's available there. I'm not sure about Fedora.

Otherwise you should look at the code in the http://launchpad.net/do-plugins where it is also available. You can download the whole repository with bazaar (or bzr), compile and install it.

As a last resort you can use the code from my repository at http://code.peterstuifzand.nl/git/gnome-do-ssh.git/ But this code is about two years old and I'm not sure if it works with the current Gnome Do.

Re: Proposal for handling 403 forbidden - Peter Stuifzand weblog

I hate it when I mix up my HTTP error codes. The web page on which the user gets this message has the opportunity to explain to the user what happens. This new bar will help users move on when they don't want to login, as this isn't a modal dialog.

Re: Peter Stuifzand weblog: Giving URxvt a try again

I already use urxvtcd.
