I'm ok with that. It's a very polarizing local dish. But call us a declining rust belt city and I take issue with you. It's simply inaccurate. Personally, I think the subway was the right idea (as demonstrated by today's street car movement). It was just started too late and between the late start, and prohibition, our mighty beer town feel behind its then peer cities (NYC, Chicago). The only thing that hasn't bounced back from the early 1900s is our public transportation.

Re:

It's timely, relevant and looks interesting.

Re: When the Novelty of Livestream Video Wears Off

The opportunity for creating MORE of EVERYTHING is the greatest it's ever been. And I think it's put a premium on the skill of knowing when to say less or (OMG!) nothing.

How many brands do we know that love to weigh in on everything in the news (good news, bad news and even innocuous news like a more diverse set of emojis )? It's their attempt at being relevant. But far too many brands and people stop to think beyond the challenge of relevancy/context. This skill is almost a new form of curation in many ways. And think of this skill's potential.

It reminds me of the home movies I had converted to mp4 recently. I got to see snippets of me and my family in 1974, 1976 and 1980. It's maybe 40 minutes of footage - without sound - spanning 6 years. And at the end of it, all I wanted was MORE. It's because of the nature of home movies. Before video tape and vcrs, you were limited to flashes of memories, not simulcasts of them. And they're a lot more interesting to watch as a result -- even without sound.

So perhaps a way to articulate this is that we need folks who can use the always on technologies we have now to choose a better selection of content...not simply more of it.

Re: Instabland: It's time for the top photo-sharing platform to evolve

I'll argue that Instagram is still innovating. it's just in ways that won't have an immediate impact on the user experience (filters for example). They're rolling out video ads now, based on a successful launch of photo ads. And the opportunity for many big brands is that they have plenty of 15-30 second sized spots to plug in there. For smaller brands, self-service ad tools are forthcoming as well. More importantly, their users haven't reacted poorly to the photo ads. Long term, this will help them monetize and fund innovation. Yes, they already have a sugar daddy in Facebook. Yes, they need to keep driving the mobile photo sharing category. But I think that's a bigger, uh, picture than simply the user experience.

Re:

And I'm not surprised. It seems to me, as a startup mentor, that startups are the beneficiary of low/no resources....a constraint that forces creative thinking. Similarly, they are without history, baggage, perceptions and standing processes to follow. This lack of baggage - for a 14 year old, translates into an even lighter operating system to apply to a new business plan. Congrats.

Re: A Bad Case of NOMO

NOMO sounds like a good plan to recover from burnout and fatigue. But I'm betting if you looked closely, there are specific elements of social media in which you're embracing NOMO vs. broadly and completely. This blog for example...I'd suggest it's writing and engaging (perhaps thanks in part to social media). So while my blogs look like I'm embracing NOMO, you'll know it's official when the dust gets knocked off them.

I think another thing to consider is that, hopefully, finally, social is becoming more of a part of a bigger whole. If this happens, it'll make NOMO easier. But this, imho, is because it'll help lessen the burnout and fatigue.

Disclaimer: The FOMO? Yeah, it'll have migrated elsewhere instead of disappearing. And as far as what FOMO looks like....this isn't it. But my head always goes here when I see FOMO: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: Photo Album By Moleskine + MILK Review (Plus a Giveaway!)

Love this collaboration. It's a great recap. But I do need to clarify that I'm working for The Empower Group, not directly for/with PHF.

We didn't get into the details as part of the presentation, but there's been a lot going on. In fact, I need to update my LinkedIn profile.

But I just want to make it clear that my brain is focused elsewhere and I do not lead the CX team. There are a lot of amazing brains behind PHF's word of mouth team -- including Taylor as you mention. LinkedIn's content curation has been very useful for me. And even if you only want to use LinkedIn as a job-hunting site, look at it this way....if you wait to build a fire until you're cold? You're going to get a lot colder before you get warm. So don't treat linkedin as an on-off campaign or it won't do a third of what you want/need it to.

Re: Farewell and Hello

Congrats Jonathan!
