As an example, if you try to respond to your mails / tweets too fast, the quality of your conversations will suffer, so there is a direct tradeoff between quality and velocity. If we go down this path, we will discover that there is some kind of a tradeoff between all the metrics that you care about and it will eventually boil down to prioritizing one over the other.

Re: Social Media Projects You Could Start Today

Thats a great list - thanks Chris.

Re: Twitter Highlighting "Clever Accounts", Extending Twitter 101 @cleveraccounts

Interesting strategy. They have been very aggressive on copying twitter and I just read about launching a global like system, that sounds like a digg killer and now you are talking about them going after foursquare and gowalla.

Yes, they have the users and they could give these companies a scare. But to me, malleable social networks seem to have very different properties and use cases than networks like facebook and I find it hard to believe that one service can serve both the markets well.

Re: Done with Flickr [What I Use]

Now that you are out of flickr, you should also check out http://www.lifeblob.com - it discovers related photos for you and has a really cool blog embed that lets you embed the entire photostream into your blog.

The good part is you can try it out by importing photos from picasa before you are sold.

Re: Opera Mini 5 Beta Comes to Android

Now I really wish I had an android phone :(

Re: Take a Virtual Walk through Hong Kong with Google Street View

Super cool - I've been to Hong Kong once and looking at this gives a sense of deja vu.

Re: Be Sexier in Person

Wow, amazing that I found this post almost 2 years after you wrote it. Just that I haven't seen anyone pull off a model like this online because the "online marketing" pitch falls flat when you can't measure.

The only one that has managed this to some extent is virtual worlds like second life, but then everyone is still debating whether an investment there is a good decision or a bad one.

The ideas are good neverthless. Lets see if someone tries it.

Re: FarmVille: Enhancements and new Monetization Ideas | Vishal Sood

Nice ideas - very much "out of the box kind" :)

However, one of the problems that I see is that advertising hasn't really worked on facebook yet! And a part of the problem is that people are not using facebook with an intent to purchase something - they just want to have fun. And given that most of the marketers want their online spend to be measurable, it makes it really hard to justify sponsorships of 1800-Flowers etc within games.

My personal belief is that it would be very hard to convince someone to do this kind of sponsorship. And even if Zynga did, it would go off very soon because "measurable" conversion will not show up.

Re: Share your life’s timeline with Lifeblob

Fardeen - Thanks for covering lifeblob. In most cases, that makes all the difference between success and failure.

Re: The F Word

I do echo your sentiment that facebook fan pages are somewhat redundant for most businesses. I created one with a lot of enthusiasm for lifeblob and it is just sitting there without adding much value to the overall business.

However, I do see some of the brands using facebook pages very well in combination with their advertisement on other media to drive user engagement, provide information and get valuable feedback. I think they do serve a very valuable purpose in these short-term kind of campaigns but may not be as valuable for a really long term customer engament.

Re: Why I Deleted my Facebook Fan Page

Chris - If it was called a "Facebook Page" instead of a "Facebook Fan Page", would you still delete it?

Just trying to assess how big an impact the presentation of a feature can have on end users.

Re: Want to See Dr. Horrible RickRolling LOLCats?

I would also recommend looking at http://www.lifeblob.com for social timelines, where you can add people to your timeline posts and have the posts come up on their timelines too.

So if you go out on a trip with your friends, you can now simply upload your photos, add their names and the trip post becomes a part of their timelines too. There are over 300,000 existing timeline that you can join - check this for a sample: http://www.lifeblob.com/top...

Pranav Bhasin
http://www.lifeblob.com/use...

Re: The Next Layer Of The Social Media Stack

I think aggregation and filtering is a good start, but not good enough to sustain in the long run. A service needs more meat on top of it to add value and that in my mind comes from inferences driven from aggregated data or showing how diverse pieces of data are related to each other in some manner.

Re: Be Naked

Makes perfect sense. I feel that all these social tools are just a channel and eventually it is a personal connection between two people that will help - multiple tools just make it a lot harder to build strong connections.

Re: Create Your Own Tumblr Styled Site Using WordPress

Neat idea - thanks Mark.
