You want to act like a better person, but you find it acceptable to medically neglect certain people? That's not ethically consistent, nor is it the mark of a more thoughtful, law-abiding person. In this country, we have laws about how people are to be treated, even if they fail to pay traffic tickets, or steal, or even commit murder. We have committed to having a standard of treatment for all people in this country. When we do not reach it, the right thing to do, legally and ethically, is remedy that failure. The ways and means are discussed in this article, if you need a reference. To say that no one dies from medical neglect in prison is a mathematical impossibility, and frankly a cruel and juvenile attempt to dodge the duty we all have to uphold the laws and (at least purported) values of this country. You're not the better person, sir, bet on that.

with a marred reputation." She had reasons to be scared of speaking up. I'm honestly concerned that you will not see that, and instead try to mitigate the behavior of a grown man in a position of power over a child.

I got a pixie after my hair had been halfway down my back, mostly because I realized that all I ever did was throw it up in a clip anyway (and hair skills are not my forte; I had ambitions but I could not seem to learn how to execute them). I have no regrets, and everyone at work as terribly surprised but nice about it. It wasn't even a week before everyone was used to it. The only person who was remotely negative about it was our creepy toner supplier; I regarded his crestfallen face and the reduction in his attention as a delightful bonus of a haircut that was great anyway. Even he didn't say anything, it was just some obvious body language and a big change in how he interacted with me. So in my experience, most people will be nice about something like this.

Yep. I try my best to be sympathetic to the people, who are without a doubt overworked, and who are in a very high-stakes profession. There's no way I'd ever argue we could not be doing more to support the case workers. But LADCFS just does not seem to care about adequate reviews, either of the cases or the people doing the work. I'm not expecting perfection, but I've seen a family abuse their seven kids, and not even the second go 'round with LADCFS accomplished anything. No one even had to go to counseling. That story won't have a happy ending, just like a lot of others. This is really disappointing.

That is a line right from every manager I had when I was a server. We weren't allowed to push back at all, in any way, against any behavior. One night, after a customer had made a deeply creepy obscene phone call to the restaurant to try to pick me up (He'd seemed normal earlier; you never know with people, I guess), my manager wouldn't let one of my male coworkers walk me to my car, which was parked blocks away on a dark street. This despite the fact that it was midnight and the place was fucking dead, and the fact that my coworkers were volunteering to go because they'd heard the whole phone call. Nope, no can do, there's a lot of standing around doing dick-all that has to happen.
