Rather than get a government bailout at the expense of the taxpayers,this is where they should have been all along. The government should not be involved in private/public business at all. Nothing good ever comes out of the government trying to intercede/control a private/public organization.

Abortion is one of the most divisive issues that plagues our country. I see no easy resolution to it. I don't think that the murder of physicians who practice it will solve anything though.

Trying to engage the "Madman of North Korea"<kim jong="" il=""> in talks is a useless gesture. He has consistently shown that they do not work. He only uses them to garner more concessions from the world,and then casually dismisses any promises he makes when it doesn't suit him anymore.Trying to use the United Nations to help in the matter is also useless. They have condemned , and pronounced resolution after resolution against him,to no avail. The use of military force against him is not advised either,it's doubtful any free nation could garner the support needed for such a task,and loss of life would probably be on an epic scale. To leave him alone to his machinations is probably the worst strategy of all;he would almost assuredly develop his nuclear arsenal if left unchecked. Nuclear weapons in his hands would be worse than if Saddam had possessed them. His health is ailing;we could hope that it quickly removes him from our worries,but with no clear successor in place,the country could delve into chaos and we might be worse off than we are now when the smoke clears. There are no easy answers to this scenario.Our new administration is faced with an unenviable task here. The only advice I could offer up would be to engage China in some meaningful talks about Pyongyang.
They have consistently been North Korea's strongest protector and ally,though the once heavy support has been showing signs of waning. China boasts the worlds largest military in numbers,and they have an impressive military arsenal with nuclear weapons included. Pressure from them might be the one thing to keep Kim Jong Il in check. Without the Chinese support, Pyongyang would stand alone,and even I don't think the "Madman of North Korea",is mad enough to resist the will of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

I am not thrilled by her nomination after delving into her history and decisions,but at the same time, I don't think she will have much of an impact on the court. She will be replacing Justice Souter who is probably the most liberal one on the court barring Justice Ginsburg, so her appointment shouldn't really affect the balance of the court. I do wish the President would have picked someone with better qualifications though. While her background is impressive, there are several people who exceed her in that realm. Sadly,the three criteria that were considered most about her was her race,gender,and ideology. This has become a truism for most Presidents, not just Obama. The one factor that gets constantly overshadowed is qualifications. I will never forget during the Reagan years when Mr. Bork was nominated to the court. He had the most impressive credentials of any nominee ever. His record was flawless. And yet, he was voted down simply because of his conservative ideology. I don't think that race,gender,religion,etc. should ever be a consideration in this process. If more Presidents would look at the qualifications and integrity of the appointees, I think we would all be better served.

Though I'm certainly not a fan of of the younger Bush, it is reckless at best to insinuate that he was the reason that we got attacked. Perhaps you were just being Facetious, but Bush had only been in office a few months,and certainly bears no culpability in this matter. In fact, no one President was to blame for the attacks. The attacks were a culmination of many years of administrative and congressional failures . "Obama's changes have made us safer?" You are incorrect there also. He is just barely into office and has not done anything significant either way to increase or decrease the attacks. You are certainly entitled to your political views,but to make one side a saint and the other side a devil,is just as irresponsible as our collective elected officials who ignored the warnings for far too long.

Typical propaganda from someone who is so biased they cannot see the truth. I see this dribble from the "left" and the "right" often. One side blames the other for everything while it's the American people who must suffer for their antics. Our political system is in total disarray,and the ones that place the blame on the other side no matter what ,only fuel the problem. A plain and simple truth is that most elected officials are bought and sold before they ever enter office. They serve themselves, and the "special interests" they represent,and the average voter is left in the cold. I much prefer the merits of conservatism over liberalism, but would take a honest member of either party over the flotsam we have now that permeates our elected halls at every level of government.

I think the jury is still out on Obama. I have seen some things from him that are positive and other areas concern me. One note of particular interest is that he is not adhering to a purely liberal agenda. Some of his actions and speeches have caused alarm in the strong-arm liberals that supported him. This tells me that he may not be playing the typical politics as usual as most elected officials do. He may actually be doing the almost unheard of action of being a President. A good degree of measure would be his Supreme Court nominee. Liberals are wanting a "left-winger" for the purpose of gutting our constitution, and relinquishing our freedoms in the form of bigger government and controls. Obama has indicated he is considering a more moderate choice. If that is indeed the case, Obama could be on the the right path;a President who follows his conscience and not what the special interests or others would like him to choose. His tenure is still new,and we have much more to consider,but so far,in my opinion only,the jury is still deliberating.

I have watched these posts and replies with interest. I served in the U.S. Navy S.E.A.L.s before a training accident left me unfit for military duty. During my service, I was assigned to the mid-east and several other "hot" zones around the globe. I had liaisons with numerous special ops teams from multiple countries. Among the best of these were the Sayeret Tzanhanin<israel special="" forces="">. They were far and away the best and most professional of any "special ops" team I observed,and yet they used methods that amounted to torture on certain prisoners. In fact every government I was working beside, did the same. I can also say unequivocally that it worked. The average person would be shocked at what goes on unseen, and what it accomplishes. I am not an advocate of torture by any means,but it's results from those of us who have witnessed it first-hand are undeniable.
The sad truth is that every government uses it to some degree,though some are far more diabolical with it's use. Treaties that are signed condemning it,are mostly for show,as no government adheres to them. Everyone has their own opinion of what constitutes torture,and why it should or should not be used. I am not here to disparage anyone's beliefs,but to simply tell you that it does work,and that countless lives have been saved because of it.

I think a better question to ask about this matter would be why are they trying to hide it?Their poor track record on almost everything suggests the reasons behind the non-disclosure is less than honorable.I really don't think they care about the repercussions to the applicants.

The names are supposed to be divulged.The mayor and other council members are breaking the law if they don't divulge the information,and they should be held accountable.

There is nothing racist or immoral about the Confederacy or the people who celebrate it as their heritage. Sadly,there is a significant number of people who were raised from birth,and taught that it, and anything associated with it, is racist. I remember as a child the same biased thinking that came from some relatives and associates.It wasn't until my early college years that i began to learn the truth. From the things I learned in history,and the research i did on my own,I learned much. If others would put aside their hatred,and do some genuine learning on the Civil War,they might find that their hatred has been misplaced,and that they are fighting a hollow crusade.
