I think that's the British way of spelling it. I just googled the spelling to double check and it seems both spellings are acceptable.

I actually got this poem about 5 years ago now as a handout in my poetry class in high school. We were using it to study retellings in poetry. It always amazes me when poets find this blog by looking for themselves and is of course, exciting.

I'll certainly be contacting you to see more of your work. This is one of my all-time favorite poems, so I'm sure I'd enjoy others.

I apologize for posting this without your or The XY Files' publisher's permission. My intent was not and never is to offend anyone or violate anyone's rights to their work. I simply wish to share poetry that I like (ideally at a rate of one poem per day) and help spread interest and awareness for the art. I did find this poem in the collection you mention; it's a collection I have many favorite poems within. If you would like I can add the above stated credits to the post. Or if you would like the post and its subsequent reblogs (repostings, usually with credit, that happen out of my control) we would have to contact Tumblr, the platform on which this site is hosted.

Thank you also for pointing out my typo! Despite whether or not I reread what I've typed I never seem to catch my mistakes. You should find it corrected now.

Unfortunately I don't think that Eric Amann will see this here, though it's possible he might (I've had poets contact me through the site, I suppose after searching their names and finding a link to this place). This blog is run independently of the authors posted here and any of their publishers, editors or other "people." If you'd like to get in contact with any of them I suggest searching for their personal websites or contacting them through a known publisher. I'm sorry I took so long to respond and thank you for your readership.

Yep! On the 16th there is Lyric Persuasions: A conversation with Rae Armantrout and Norman Fischer (a Zen Buddhist priest, as well as a poet); this'll be a reading and discussion of course. If you can't make that there aren't any others next week but you're welcome to stop by Tuesday through Saturday. It's a wonderful place just to take a break and read a bit. Plus the view from the library is awesome.
