I had them from before age 10 to age 40 as well -- but unexpectedly, when I went on a low-carb diet at age 40, they stopped completely. Great article. I have used the phrase "words that lie" many times since reading it.

However, internet searches for an "official Soviet dictionary" reveal little. I find https://fas.org/irp/world/r... which defines "peaceful coexistence" but not "peace." Any tips or hints on where I might find it online?

I do not make a living on them; even if you take the numbers at face value ($35/book, 1500 books, over 5 years) that's not a living, it's a nice bit of extra cash on the side. Initial sales were great but dropped off dramatically to a trickle. That may be a function of marketing, at which I am terrible.

Maybe it is, but maybe not. I tend to think it is, to honor Separated Presentation more fully:

Presentation code would manipulate GUI widgets and structures in a rich client application, HTTP headers and HTML in a web application, or command line arguments and print statements in a command line application. We then divide the application into two logical modules with all the presentation code in one module and the rest in another module.

To extend that a bit: on a server-side system, the input is the HTTP Request, and the output (presentation) is the HTTP Response. To combine the building of the Response with anything else, is to combine presentation concerns with other concerns. The benefits of separating concerns in that case, become the same as those available in any other case.

Hope that made sense.

Regardless, I think the main takeaway continues to be that MVC is for client-side in-memory GUI systems, not for server-side over-the-network request/response systems, and different patterns are required for the two different kinds of systems -- and on that point we agree completely.

POSA1 refers to Layers, Pipes and Filters, Blackboard, Broker, MVC, PAC, Microkernel, and Reflection as "architectural patterns" -- that is, as patterns found within an architecture. At no point does POSA refer to any of them as "application architectures" in and of themselves. So, yes, the fundamental mistake remains.

Instead of leaving this logic in the controller or putting it in a model, let's move it to a dedicated class. At Spatie, we call these classes "actions".

As a matter of using a pre-existing shared vocabulary, these are more accurately called (via POEAA) Transaction Scripts, or Services in the Service Layer; alternatively, via DDD, these would better be called Application Services, or perhaps even Use Cases.

Aside from the naming, though, nicely done -- it's just the sort of thing I recommend as the Domain portion of Action Domain Responder.
