How about some knowledge about what you are righting about

I think this will be my last support or reading of engadget. Down right f$&@ing miserable writeup.

If it isn't apple it's not good have fun with your limited codec and no hd audio or 1080p playback talk about living in the past.

Really honestly how did this reviewer get his job???

Re: Apple TV vs. the competition -- how does it stack up?

How about comparing it against an extender that play everything hd audio like the new hd300 from sagetv or wait that is not apple so it won't get covered here....

Re: Win a Free Popcorn Hour C-200 Media Player

give me give me give me :)

Re: PopcornHour C200 Preview and First Look

Hey Brent just send that over to me I will test while you are out of town :)

Re: Hauppauge Will Sell CableCard Tuners

The only extender left (xbox 360) worth a hoot does support the cablecard tuners always has. The relaxed drm helps with sharing with other clients. The linksys extender can be found cheap and support cable card as well.

Re: Hauppauge Will Sell CableCard Tuners

I agree and the reasons you listed is why I won't use a hd-pvr to many boxes/cables plus the poteintal of a bad hd-pvr or two or three :). The WMC cable card tuners a single card with 4 streams and ota or qam to back it up is more than most will need and will please most people. No you can get around the restrictions of WMC if you use clients over extenders so it is a give in take. I would love to see somone else (cough sage) support cable cards but I just dont' see it every happening.

Re: Hauppauge Will Sell CableCard Tuners

I don't think you will see any software companies except Microsoft supporting them for a while simply because of the money it would/will cost other companies to get cablecard approval. Let alone the time for the approval process if one of them does decide too.

Re: Multi Channel CableCard Tuner for MediaCenter Arrives from Ceton

I think you woke him up :)

http://www.engadgethd.com/2...

Re: Microsoft Media Center Announements from CEDIA – Mostly CableCard News

It will no longer be required. You will have to wait for the official windows 7 launch and the new firmware for the ati (suppose to also be released at launch). To me the OEM was the biggest setback along with the DRM on everything I can live with it on premiums but hated it on everything. It definately has me thinking about my switch to sage. I love sage extenders but they still lack
1. A full resolution UI
2. True hd audio support

Granted I can't get that with media center extenders and sage beats theres support wise hands down. But I have to admit if I am going to go small client pcs media center is the better option with this opened up. Plus other things I know but can't share I think media center perceptions is going to change drastically in the next year.

Also remember toshiba tv's will have extender platform built in.

Re: Report: SDV Solved with CableCard Firmware Update Coming Soon

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. I use RapidRun Cables myself monoprice is well priced but I found their quality lacking for good custom installers like myself. Rapid runs are more but are good solid cables/technic.

None the less nice writeup and hide those cables behind the tv man :)

Re: Preview of an Awesome Looking XBMC Skin Called Surface

I think this is coming to sage :)

Re: Windows Media Center SDK RTM Released

This is one of the many areas IMHO sage excels at. Currently all you really have is xbox 360 since everyone is dropping out of the extender market for them. Even with tru WHS integration like Sagetv has done DRM will make it unusable to client pc's in it's current state as the have no true client/softsled solution. One of the many reasons I moved to sagetv.

Re: Media Center Movie Managers – Comparison

Once again sagetv and BMT gets the cold sholder. Sean and Mike have done amazing things with the phoenix api and I wish sage would start getting more attention/respect.

But then again it is nice knowing what everyone else is missing :)
