I'm using the nano as well and the sound is good enough depending how the mp3's frequency. But definitively, there is a lack of quality with mp3 compression anyway!

DRM from my point of view is immature and no industry would benefit from it. If you are distributing content, I experienced that end users were unsatisfied of DRMs.
