They "have lived" (present perfect) without Judaism/Christianity for centuries. I invoked this tense to show that their present situation in which they ARE NOT murdering each other in the streets on a daily basis (at least no more than Western countries) is not a result of their having embraced Judaism/Christianity over the past centuries, in fact, just opposite.
You are trying to take what happened in the past and convince us that that is their present condition. Again, this is like looking at how the United States treated native Americans and trying to tell us how genocidal we are as a country today. I'm sorry, but I can't buy either argument.

How very disingenuous of you. Yes, the organization is still going strong. Advocacy of eugenics is not. And yes, of course the government has a right to impinge on your freedom if it means a better collective outcome. Your "natural rights" are not absolute. That's how the social contract works. You know...things like traffic laws. You might be a fabulous driver, but you still have to give up the freedom to drive as fast as you know you are able to safely for the good of society. You give up the freedom to yell, "Fire!" in a crowded theater for the good of society. Are those the worst criticisms you have of progressives? Don't you want to lambaste Teddy Roosevelt? Sheesh.

This may come as a real shock to you but most progressives are trying to make changes to values, rather than preserving values. But your response points out a larger problem. The attitude that we are good wholesome western civilization, and followers of Islam are barbarians. You may have noticed that even though it's clearly written in the Bible, Jews and Christians (for the most part) no longer stone adulterers or sabbath breakers, or homosexuals, and no longer keep slaves (although that's much more recent in the United States). Does Islam have to evolve, like Judaism and Christianity did? Sure. But branding them barbarians is not going to help that process.
Does ISIS/ISIL/daesh employ barbaric tactics? Yes. Do they do so in the name of Islam and supported by Islamic scripture? Yes. So what is the best way to deal with them? Posturing (as Mr. Cruz and Mr. Trump have done) about turning their deserts into glass certainly does not endear us to the larger Islamic community. Clearly human beings are capable of evolving socially (as we see with Jews and Christians). So it would appear to be a question of education and acceptable re-interpretation of their sacred texts.

Except nobody said radical Muslims were "classical liberals" (except in your fevered imagination). He said radical Muslims were conservatives. And they are. Just because you and I don't agree with the values they want to conserve doesn't mean they are not conservatives in the society in which they live.

Sorry, but when someone says extremist Muslims are conservative, they do not mean that they are "classical liberals." They mean that they are persons who are averse to change and hold to traditional values and attitudes, typically in relation to politics. In this case traditional from about the 9th century. You can't get much more conservative than that.

So far, I haven't found a dictionary that has your definition for the original meaning. Unless you are Shakespeare, if you make up definitions for words, don't expect other people to use them according to your definition instead of the generally accepted ones.

Sorry, John. You are the one with the skewed definition. As with the word "gay," your "classical" definition doesn't fit modern usage. Try using a dictionary definition. People tend to agree on those more. Here. I'll help you out.
