You are loyal and you don't take shit. You live life the way you want to and you are not afraid to take the consequences and explain yourself. You shouldn't have to always explain yourself but it shows you care enough NOT to hurt people's feelings (ie about the "fat" comment) that do not deserve it. That asshole deserved what was coming to him, because he is a lazy piece of shit that bothers other people because he has nothing better to do with his life. I especially appreciate the part about defending TAI and William. They seem like sweet dudes, and the bond between your two bands is so adorable.

You rule, Gabe Saporta.

Re: A Homeboy's Life - Several unsightly wounds are scattered around my...

A, E, H, I, L, Q are most realistic.

C, and N made me laugh so hard.

Gabanti's been in enough fights to know how to clean someone up.

Re: A Homeboy's Life - dear friend.

Taking Back Sunday...

So I religiously follow your blog and have read every SNMC. Honestly, I had never heard of any of the songs and I actually never listened to them because I was too busy. Sorry. It often feels like band people listen to music that I don't "get" or have time to listen to. You all are usually on a different page and I just can't relate
Anyway, when I got to your page just now, I expected a song that I wouldn't know....but then I saw the three words that make up one of my favorite bands and my favorite song of their's too.

I was simply floored.

Taking Back Sunday is a great band that makes amazing music and are really funny and interesting people. They are great preformers and I don't know....their music just speaks to me on a certain level that only Midtown has been able to reach.

Miami is a fantastic song. I love the bridge part where Fred sings "the terror held in wedding bells/the comfort in there's no one else/the truth be told I'm never gonna know" is just so amazing. I love how it's in counterpoint to Adam's singing.(fun fact about that bridge.....they were a chorus from a band Fred was in previously)

I just love how they layer the singing without sounding pretentious. They are inventive and the songs are catchy, but they have meaning. I love the guitar solos of Spin and the bassline of Error:Operator. Come to think of it, Louder Now is probably one of the albums I can listen to forever and forever. I also love New Again just as much, even though everyone else hates it. That just SPEAKS to me.

William keep reccing TBS, I can go on for ages.

Re: what to do? what is to be done?

Jessica I totally agree with you.

I'm on LJ and I'm in the fanclub, and personally I find it easier to make friends and talk on the message boards then in LJ,. I have always done my own thing on LJ and I've never really made any friends because it just takes to much effort. And I'm totally not a lazy American, because I have a life outside of the internet that gives me only enough time to chat with people once in awhile.

I like the fanclub, I think people should just stop bitching. People are never happy, and honestly if your LJ com doesn't survive maybe it wasn't suppose to.

Also, the whole "I hate teenie" attitude is ridiculously elitist. No one starts out liking bands and music as a fulfledged not-teenie. We all have to grow and come from something. Acting like you're better than someone else just because you've "been on the scene longer" is utter bullshit and hypocritical. Maybe by following your example, and not being brow-beaten they will learn how to act. If they are just hopping on the bandwagon, then they'll go away. They will always move onto the next thing. Just know that inside you are really a believer. I've been saying this for years with bands like MCR. Do you see that many teenies now? No. It's just people that were meant to be.

Idk what I'm saying....Good night
-Mars

Re: A Homeboy's Life - i will forever be a nerd. wanna watch me geek out....

pete wentz, you're the ultimate fan girl

Re: The William Beckett - INTERESTING… I WONDER WHERE THIS IS HEADING…

I think it's really cool about your parents. You have been given an advantage over many others to be more compassionate and understanding toward others. I see the kids I've grown up with (in a very clique-ish, typical, same-as-everyone-else suburban town) become more and more mean (even though they started out that way) and close minded. The xenophobia is gut-wrenching and I pity their children, because there is not much of a chance to break the cycle.

Hopefully the voices of the people that grew up and are not like that, are much louder than those people that aren't.

Re: advice wanted from moms and dads (tl;dr)

I disagree. I too was in 4th grade and 9 years old. I also live the next state over (I can even see NYC on clear days from where I live and even remember seeing smoke). I'm not actually tramatized, and I have not come into contact with anyone that is tramatized (I cannot speak for any children or families of victims, however, that is a different story. I just mean the children that I have grown up with that were young and impressionable from the NY/NJ area). I don't know any child that is currently in counciling because of 9-11.

Also, World War 1 was not fought over racism, nor was World War 2 (though the Nazi Regime was racist, it was not the reason WHY the Allies went to war against them. It was because the Nazis were trying to take over the world. However the legacy of the war is the Holocaust). Also, I disagree with using hate speech to describe Bush. Even though he fucked up majorly, it is not good to use such harsh words to completely condemn a person, especially around a young person, who may not understand the issues. If you prejudice a person from an early age, they may not be able to see why, and might just blindly follow the beliefs of others.

Kids shouldn't have a care in the world. I am all for child innocence, but they have to understand that they must share with others that are less fortunate. Though they might not get why, they should be willing to give toys and clothes to charities. The children I work with (I have worked with children from ages 3-8) all have been raised like that and they are good people because of it. When we have fundraisers and drives and gift giving during holidays, they bring in toys and money. When we discuss giving up things for Lent, we the teachers encourage them to give toys and clothes to the Salvation Army for the season.

Teaching a child to give is one of the greatest lessons one can give.

Re: advice wanted from moms and dads (tl;dr)

I work with younger kids and we always have toy drives, food drives and explain things to kids that there are other kids that don't have as many nice things as you. My parents always had me donate my toys and books and clothes to charities, and always encouraged me to give to others. Even though I didn't fully understand what was going on, I knew that someone else was happy because of me. Encourage positive thoughts and feelings because of it.

Expose him to other cultures. We had "Around the World" week at the early childhood camp I'm currently working at, and it exposes the kids to what life is like outside of the US, and not make it as scary and unusual as it can be when shown at a later age.

Traveling is a big thing. My parents always had me travel from a young young age. Not only was I not afraid of airplanes, and knew how to occupy my time during long waits, I learned how to act properly and respectively to the locals, not to mention I learned so much that I was able to use it in school.

Re: A Homeboy's Life

omg I agreee!

Re: A Homeboy's Life

I would make a joke about how many adults it takes to capture a spider, except, I wouldn't even be in the same building anymore.
