In my experience, B2B marketers are becoming more active in the digital landscape because traditional channels are not producing the same results as they have historically.
I look at this as a positive thing for SEO adoption from B2B, but not that PPC has become any less valuable. Without the full picture of the growth from year to year, the assumption that paid marketing is less effective is without a foundation.

Re: Google Title Tag Bug Causing Untitled Snippets?

In this particular example, Google (and Bing) are presenting a URL, title and a description for a page that does not exist.

The page actually requires you to have JavaScript enabled to even show in SERPs. The fact that the page is virtual (302 redirect with JavaScript & 302 redirect to error page without), it doesn't even have a title, so I can understand that it would be "Untitled" in Google and Bing provides it's own title in SERPs.

Re: Say goodbye to branded vs. non-branded SEO analysis?

I think that the biggest complaint that I have is the fact that it will become the default for users logged into a Google account and we do not know now how great an impact that will be. 5% or even 10% might not be a great concern but if it is greater it could be very significant.

The other concern is that Google is positioning this as a privacy and security enhancement, yet there is no justification to this claim. I really don't think that anyone should be concerned with the search query you are using on a public network, rather actual PII, such as usernames, passwords and financial information. These are typically not provided by people in a search box.

Re: Your First Comment On This Blog

Hello, thanks for your insights.

Re: Google Celebrates Anniversaries For Sesame Street, Wallace Gromit Many Others

I missed the Wallace Gromit logo... it was replaced by Cookie Monster at Google.co.uk

Re: Google Celebrates Anniversaries For Sesame Street, Wallace Gromit Many Others

I missed the Wallace Gromit logo... it was replaced by Cookie Monster at Google.co.uk

Re: Google Celebrates Anniversaries For Sesame Street, Wallace & Gromit & Many Others

I missed the Wallace & Gromit logo... it was replaced by Cookie Monster at Google.co.uk

Re: Hello world!

I am glad to see you as well... remember the research that I talked about a few months ago? I have sitelinks for my blog, however, I have yet to see a search query that returns them in the serps (only in webmaster tools). But the more interesting thing is that the sitelinks that were provided are not my most popular pages for traffic, nor the highest ranking pages in serps, nor major categories of my blog. So, it is interesting to see your theories, however, I don't think that any one theory solves this riddle.

Great post!

Re: Would You Buy a Link With a NoFollow Attribute?

Of course... that is the purpose of a paid link, isn't it? I don't think that the Google analytics team is really concerned with how a user got to a given page, but what they did or did not do when they got to the page.

I don't think that the general populous at Google, other than those directly involved with search quality or algo development, really have any insight or concern for the ranking of pages in SERPs.

Or, if you are really into conspiracy theory, they are passing misinformation to throw off the scent #1.

Stephen Pitts's last blog post..Meta Tags Constitute Trademark Infringement or Not?

Re: Did Pearl Jam De-construct Their Own Fame?

Oh, and their best song of all time is Yellow Ledbetter and I don't think they have ever released this other than on imports, singles and the Bsides collection.

Still one of my top guitar solos of all time!

Re: Did Pearl Jam De-construct Their Own Fame?

I grew up listening to PJ, but I definitely have felt their efforts to limit their "mainstream" visibility. It's as if they are trying to be something other than a band. There are very few bands that have seen the success and control it as well as PJ, NIN comes to mind, but even Trent recognizes the value of keeping his sounds out in the public.

I am happy to see that artists like PJ have the ability to sell out stadiums at will, simply for their art, but at the same time, don't forget about what the art is about, exposure to new sounds, ideas and most importantly sharing it with everyone.

Re: What are Some Questions to Ask an SEO Firm to Check their Legitimacy?

I think that the most important question is hinted at here with these, but from sitting on either side of the table,
"What clients have seen sustainable conversions through your SEO efforts?"
and another,
"What is your client retention rate?"
