It's probably important to remind readers that the Olympic torch is entirely a modern invention, even if the parabolic mirror is ancient. The ancient Olympics did not use such a torch or have a relay.

It's a job! Not my dream job, not by far. But in this economy, in my stupid field, I didn't have many options.

Thanks! It is GREAT to have a choice, especially in this economy. I was
really worried that I was going to have to move back in with my
parents...and run the risk of matricide in the process.

I am still waiting to hear back about two more applications I recently sent
out, so no decision will be made this week, for sure.

Yep! I did get them in LA, but now I can't remember where! Probably Bed, Bath & Beyond. When I was looking for the photo, I saw that the candy was available on Amazon. It's great stuff--not too sweet!

A great question. I run sometimes in the evening in the dark, but always in a high-traffic area. My neighborhood has almost zero streetlamps, so I frequently get a little sketchy feeling, despite all the cars.I guess I just put up with the risk. Bleh.
My suggestion would be pepper spray, too, but I know some people say that it could as easily be used against you as your attacker.
One suggestion that is probably so obvious that you didn't even mention is to never wear headphones while running alone in the dark.
