It's basically an examination of this whole phenomenon -- the author starts out as an internet vigilante, decides to start interviewing the targets of these social media mobs, and is stunned by the degree to which they devastate the lives the recipients (most of them are fired and become unemployable from that day forth, all of their attempts to make amends are met with mass contempt, etc.).
