I can see it now: In the year 2024, voters in certain districts get an anonymous email urging them to vote for John "Not Russian At All" Smithovich, upload a photo of their filled out form to an anonymous website, along with a bitcoin address, and recieve 0.1 bitcoin (by then worth $10k).

I'll try after making a few improvements to the site. However, from past interactions, it seems that permaculturalists really look down on high technology (even things like pumps and timers, not to mention future planned things like sensors, cameras, and other automation).

Love it! That meshes well with Paul Graham's advice to make something a few people love, as opposed to something many people kinda like.

It's hard to say because I'm biased, but I don't think I've seen many unexpected, physical reactions to my project, AutoMicroFarm.

It's interesting: when I send this link to my liberal friends, they raise all kinds of objections (this won't scale to all 300+ million people in the US, etc) but when I point out they just need to donate personally and not worry about the rest, they won't do it. Cognitive dissonance in action!

I've been working on my project ( http://automicrofarm.com ) for five years now. It's my latest in about half-a-dozen projects, but this one is different. It's beyond passion: it has a hold on me like no other project ever has. This is what I wrote in a recent blog post ( http://blog.automicrofarm.c... ):

"Truth be told, I’ve given up on the AutoMicroFarm idea dozens of times. It’s crazy to think that one guy can create a simple, easy, and automated micro-farm for every backyard—something that hasn’t been done by anyone (yet). But the idea pulled me back to work on it, time and time again. At particularly depressing times, I wished someone would put me out of my misery and release a similar product already. Alas, no-one has done so, or seems to be doing it, at least not how I have envisioned the product... I feel I’m compelled to make this particular bit of the future a reality."

I'd love to try and apply this concept to tiny houses, along with wet cores as the next-generation plumbing, and some kind of structured wiring for the next generation electrical system.

I've talked to a few other projects, but did not really find a good fit for collaboration. If you have any suggestions that you think might be a good fit, let me know. As far as crowdfunding, I want a really solid prototype that I know can be built within the promised timeline before starting a crowdfunding campaign.

ryepdx, thanks for following up. I've been looking for vendors who could build parts for the frame-set system, and found a few local and national possibilities. Since AutoMicroFarm is completely self-funded, I'm waiting for January to have enough funds to build a frame-set prototype.

This seems like a neat idea, but not being someone responsible for things like that in my church, it's hard to tell if a church would be interested in it. You should talk to church staff to see if this is something a church would be willing to pay for.
