Too often I find myself doing the same thing, Jon. I think we all do at least from time to time and we all have our guilty pleasures that we indulge in as well.

I think it's ok to indulge the need for latest and greatest gadgets when they will actually benefit that that brings you pleasure or helps you get your work done. Maybe you don't need any of those things but a laptop with a larger keyboard might help you type up your thesis faster...? ;)

Go for the buzz, you like it you keep it. you don't it grows back.

A lot of fashions seem to be used to identify a person to group or subculture (punk, hiphop, politically active/hippie, sports fan, etc...) so that a person can look at someone and say oh that person listens to X band or goes to Y event. In that regard it could be seen as unifying or dividing depending on your mindset :P unifying as in hey we like the same thing or divisive in we don't like the same things we can't hang out.

It's pretty sweet when trends are practical though, like Sorels or those really expensive but really warm jackets(canadian goose or something?). Though that doesn't always tend to be the case like Uggs (the most un-waterproof winter boot ever made) or ballet flats (not the most ergonomic footwear).

Anyways, fashion is fun and awesome. woo!

Hey Jon,

I knew a guy named Nick Mann who couldn't hold a backbridge because he had an overdeveloped upper back so he couldn't get his shoulder blades close enough together. Now I don't know if this is something that can be gotten around by stretching (I can show you some good shoulder stretches if you want) or not but it seems like your conflicting hobbies have imposed a sort of ultimatum. Choose one or the other.

I can't put a voice to one or the other as I don't know what you get from either of those hobbies but I would think about which one you could live with less of. What things and values mean more to you and which of those are reflected in each of those hobbies. It's a tough call and I wish you luck in coming up with a solution.

Hopefully I'm wrong and you can find a way to excel at both.
