It's so wonderful to see how you've progressed in the course and challenged yourself with this video (and you talked exactly to the time!).

I'd really like to see this open with a short story. How can you engage your audience so that they will listen to the details that follow?

If you had the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce come to you and say - we loved this video, would you develop it into a 12-15 minute talk - how would you fill out the details? What picture would you paint to keep them engaged for that length of time and for them to want to buy in?

Re: Well, I finally put it all together and get on with that goal of mine

@Kevin Liebenberg - the link is working now if you want to drop back in and leave your comment for John.

Re: P12: The Ripple Effect

"I'm a writer" - That's a bold and wonderful statement Ashley.

I'm pleased that you took the time to engage us all with your traffic ripple effect metaphor. I'm left with a strong call to action and an understand of what you're offering but I think it needs a personal touch to start it off right.

Re: Experiences shape who we are

Hey Meghan,

Congratulations on shipping this one. I know it was hard.

Even if it isn't today, I love to see you take more stabs at this kind of video. You've got this very cool business idea driven my your own passion for the environment and even by a quest to find beauty in the things that people surround themselves with.

And you're bringing that to a tough, tough, old school industry.

The way you're going to crack that is through telling great stories and by bringing your passion to bear on them.

This kind of video will make a wonderful introduction to what you offer to people just hearing of you for the first time.

It's obvious that you put a lot of work into this and that you practiced. I think the next step is to feel confident in your talking points and just imagine you're a quiet bar with an old dear friend and that you're completely relaxed (I've gone so far as to put a photo of a face on my camera or even pictures of eyes) and you're excited to tell her/him about your idea.

That's the place to be when you're ready to take another stab at this. Stand up, look at the lens and give it your heart.

Re: Design is for everyone

Yes, Murali! This is wonderful. What a powerful ending.

What story could you open up with to draw people in? Is it something that you talked about in the vid or something different.

Imagining that your next constraint was imposed when the TED committee saw your short vid and asked you to expand it to 18 minutes. How would you develop the waves of the story to keep people's attention?

Finally, once people see the objects designed with intent, what do you want them to do?

Re: The Cost of Treading Water (5)

Oh, your poor whimpering inner accountant, Christina!

Kudos for letting the inner consultant out of the penalty box (excellent use of consultant lingo in your last sentence!). Which of those is most intriguing and scary? As we see the end of the program coming I think about the postcard we got from the beginning: "I will do the hard part first". "I will embrace emotional labour." Does thinking of your future while being sensitive to those thoughts help give you some direction for next steps?

Can't wait to see your next ruckus,

Travis

Re: Don’t stop believin’…in yourself (6)

Stop it with the beautiful photos! It's so tough to do sometimes and something you needed to build up to as you're seeing the end of the altMBA program coming.

You've got so many beginnings coming up. What do you play to do to make sure you have good and proper endings as well? (apropos metaphoric sunset!)

You've been very open and honest throughout this program - an honour to the people you've shared with. How can you push yourself to continue that "emotional labour"?

Re: Starting the altMBA all over.

Hey Max. Thanks for sharing this - it's bold and ballsy and I like it.

Why do you think you've been avoiding saying this stuff out loud? Now that you're a pro altMBA'er does that teach you something about "doing the hard part first"? Give you some stuff to target?

Much of the success of a new venture is less about the product than the community you build. Are there any lessons that you've learned from your job to help with building a community around a new venture?

What about the community lessons from altMBA?

I look forward to hearing how things go as you move over to the Alumni side!

Re: The Cost of Ignoring An Imminent Change(5)

Hey Melanie. It's such a pleasure to read your work.

I hope that the opportunity to work "on" your business this month has been helpful in giving you some clarity for your future directions.

We're at an interesting point in the program, you've seen all but the last prompt in "the process". My challenge to you now is: how do you coach yourself?

What are the things that you need to dig deeper on to help yourself feel clear? How, in the altMBA parlance do you get yourself to "ship" on your decisions, and then ship again?

Re: Doing nothing costs something, so does doing too many things.

Hey Jerome,

What you've written here brings up something common for many leaders: Is what you see as a problem really a problem if your ideal client doesn't think so? Or think so yet?

I'm not trying to shoot down your idea but rather challenge you to take a look at the opportunity you see. How do you take on educating an industry that they have a need as well as creating the product that fulfills the need?

In what ways can you bring on your "friendlies" to talk through the perceived problems in the industry to find the gateway for your product.

With only a couple of more projects to go, I ask you to consider your readers. No one has the same experiences (or brilliant ideas) that you do - how do you introduce them to your industry in a quick and engaging way as you bring them into the work you're doing for your projects.

Thanks, Jerome, for being open and sharing your struggles. You honour us with your honesty.

Re: I need to be a better storyteller… (5)

Thomas, every time you take on Man Alive for your prompts I feel like you get not one step, but 10 steps closer to figuring things out.

Small daily steps are going to be a great source of habit-building practices and story-telling. What sort of things will you put out in the world - not the sort of thing that requires a whole website re-write but something that reveals Man Alive piece by piece?

PS: not related to how you did your project but something that might come in handy (I've been doing marketing for years and this stuff has helped my leap forward in my thinking) - I'd check out Storybrand.com.
