As for your inquiry — Zemanta works either as a WP.org plugin or as a browser extension, so it really shouldn't be any of a problem for our Linux users, but I'm afraid it really cannot work with any other program / software, I'm afraid to say.

You mustn't worry about that Katherine. In this instance, display of the thumbnail image is transformative, does not take away from the market for the underlying image, and serves a valuable societal function (i.e., of allowing internet users to find “related articles,” in much the same way a search engine would). The thumbnail image also links through to the original article, so to the extent internet users click through, they will access the full size image — if at all — only in the original article. Indeed, use of the images in this manner is no different from use of images by Google (image search) or LinkedIn (where users are allowed to posts links to articles of possible interest to their connections).

As for your comments — yes, we mostly agree, but it's really hard to hold on to an idea, especially if you publish it or put it out in the public. But we can hardly discuss these matters that are far beyond our reach, I'm afraid to say.

How do we protect ourselves? Well, we all have to be careful what we publish and what we are willing to risk — only as much as we are ready to loose, in my humble opinion. But we are very strict against copy & pasted material, which we will "police".

Yes, in a way that's true, but still — originally created content cannot be completely the same to something that's already been published (somewhere else). At least not the whole article — all words in the exact same order.

But I'm not exactly sure what do you mean by that "link status" — are you referring to the rel="follow" & rel="no-follow" links or something else?

Bear in mind that all links inserted via our widget are OK with Google, as long as they are inserted by the user (author) and not automatically. You can find a few blog post (two from Google, one from us) below that will hopefully shed some more light on this matter.

Also — all those inserted links can also be marked as objectionable in your Zemanta Dashboard, if you wish.

Hey Julia, thanks for reaching out, I'd love to help!

It all sounds like you've upgraded to the newer version of your WordPress's Dashboard, which probably re-ignited some (if not all) of your plugins, including ours. But I strongly doubt that any of our plugins (or this "re-ignition" of them) could possibly affect the loss of your editor, especially since we have thoroughly tested all our plugins on all possible WP versions, nor have we received any user reports of that kind.

But you should be able to get to your previous plugin settings page after you click on that orange 'Turn On' button. Or have you already done that?

Is your editor still missing though? Have you used the WordPress's default editor before or have you used some plugin instead?

The thing is, Zemanta unfortunately doesn't work in the WordPress's (.com) default Dashboard anymore, but can be easily re-installed via our browser extension.

It comes with all the features you're already used to (images, in-text links, related posts & tags) and is really easy to set it up. Just follow the link to our downloads page and install the appropriate extension for your browser.

Hey Antony, thanks for reaching out, but which feature are you referring to exactly? The widget with related articles from around the web, below your editor, when composing new posts?

If so, please mind that you can turn it off in your plugin settings page, if you un-tick the box next to "Display widget with articles from around the web in your "Compose-new-post" page."

But please also mind that by turning this option off, you'll step out of our Recommendations Pool, which means that we won't be able to recommend your blog posts to other bloggers, who are writing about similar stuff.

Hey Harry, sorry for the long overdue reply (vacations took its toll)!

As for your inquiry — our aggregator works more or less in the following order: tags, categories, title + content. This is the order in which it looks & finds relevant content from around the web or in your case: from your own blog.

But if you wish to exclude certain categories form showing up in your related posts section, then I'd recommend you to do that in your plugin settings. This way you'll prevent your related posts to show up in those excluded categories as well as prevent to recommend related posts from those excluded categories. The exclusion works both ways.

What exactly seems to be the problem? Did Zemanta successfully install? Did you get any errors during installation? I've tried and it works fine with FF22.

Can you try and reinstall Zemanta? Please follow this link: http://www.zemanta.com/down... choose Firefox and follow the installation progress.

After successful installation, Zemanta icon should appear in your right corner of your navigation toolbar. (BTW Zemanta box should be checked, to be enabled)
Then restart your browser, and try it out.

If you encounter any other problems, please do let us know!
