Yeah, but expecting those other things to work long term is just a recipe for Pain in general, IMO (we migrated all the .labsdb aliases in labs from there to a real DNS server). But definitely will bite other people too. But from nginx' POV, implementing this could be hard - how often do you read /etc/hosts? Do you also read /etc/resolv.conf for search domains?

I should get around to filing bug anyway, though.

So, we actually do! It's not well publicized, but you can opt into our (even more quicker release) alpha at http://lists.wikimedia.org/.... Note that the google groups link there has an extra dot in the end you have to remove to get it to work.

The Beta app was built out a year and a half ago when there was no beta system, and has 40,000 active users. Better to take advantage of that, no? :)

Thing is I usually find these kinda assignments boring - since the answers are already out there. But this time I'm forcing myself to think in a purely functional way, and that is definitely helping! Because of that I don't brute force problems but actually sit and think about problems - that seems to be making me a better programmer. So all good, I guess!

Static Blog Generator is so boring! :P I'm trying to figure out if I can get any production software at WMF written in Scala - probably a hard ask to start with, but I bet I can get something on the semi-production cluster written in Scala (and then eventually migrate it to production!). I've been meaning to do some data analysis stuff over all of wikipedia / commons - perhaps this is a good tool to use for that.

I'll definitely keep the blog updated!
